So I went to Nürburgring with my dad and mum at out holiday trip. We drove one lap around the legendary Nordschleife and the experience was unforgettable. Gran Turismo seems to have the best virtual version of Nordschleife at the moment but as you can guess, it’s totally different in real life.

After driving it around I’m not jealous to Stefan Bellof at all when he drove the The ’Ring in 6 mins and 11 secs. And the grip wasn’t the best at there too. Even we didn’t drove it around as fast as we could, our Volvo still did some four wheel slides.

On our lap two cars crashed to the wall. They were some small compact cars and both of them were carried away from the track by a tow car. At one braking a very good-looking EVO6 Lancer passed us. The interior looked very rough and it had roll-cage too.

The BMW M5 Ring-Taxi passed us too before a chicane. It passed us from the outside of the curve and drifted through the following chicane… insane…

On the trip I also noticed some nice cars there, here are few to mention: Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG, Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG, Mercedes-Benz C43 AMG, Lamborghini Gallardo, MDS’s Lamborghini Murcielago, over 20 VW Karmann Ghias (the locals must have had some meeting), 5 red Ford GT40s (it’s hard to tell if they were replicas or not), 2 Gulf theme colored Ford GT40s (they had very nice sound too), countless amount of MX-5s, Porsches and fast motorbikes, specially at the surroundings of the Nürburgring, VW Multivan VR6 and Caravelle VR6, FD-body RX-7 and many others, can’t be bothered to list them down now.

Unfortunately I can't put the pics here because it says I'm going to put too much of them.

Well here you can see all the pics:

WOW those pics are stunning!!! i wish i could go to the nurburgring sometime soon for a trip!

The gt4 cockpit simulator with the 3 screens look amazing!

So you came to the Nürburgring in a gray Volvo as well :D
I think we did 200 on the ring and 220 on autobahn. It's quite fast in a straight line but not in corners ;)

Also have to agree with you that GT4 does the best job of digitally resembling the track. But it's such a different experience IRL. You recognize the corners and everything, but it doesn't really feel like anything you've seen in a game or on a video taping. When we came down to Aremburg on our first lap, that's when it hit me. I'm on the real Nordschleife!

Great pictures btw! I didn't know there was a museum down there, too bad I missed out on it, but oh well. Going back for sure! I really recommend going there. You can't help being impressed. Even my mom got impressed by it all.

Yea they don't advrtise the museum too much. I wouldn't have no idea about the museum if I hadn't heard about it on web. I was really waiting that there would be Sauber C9 but no, maybe another day.

My mum said that she won't ever come to Nürburgring with us or drive the Autobahn with us again  Maybe a bit too fast for her. But I'm going back there at some day for sure.

Our Volvo got only 205km/h on Autobahn. It's a 850 GLT, 2.5 litre inline-5 with 20V but the automatic tranny isn't the best one for high speed attempts though
It goes fine to 170km/h but then it changes from 3rd gear to 4th and then it's all gone.

But anyway thanks for the comments guys and see ya again at The 'Ring some day

Let’s start with this pic which was the first pic taken from the trip. It’s the A1 Autobahn where you could drive as fast as your car goes. But this can happen too. The queue was much longer than this pic let’s you assume, the queue behind us was at least 2 to 3 times longer than what you see in this.

Yes, the A1 (Autobahn No. 1). The biggiest construction site in the world. A few weeks ago I had to go from Osnabrück (northern Germany - where I live) to Bonn (the former capital of Germany - near the Nordschleife). 260 kilometres. It tooks me 3 hours and 15 minutes to get to Bonn because of two traffic jams. On my way back it took me less than 2 hours. No traffic jams and no speed limits. I took a photo of my speedo because I was bored:

:-)

On sundays, when the trucks are gone, all Autobahns are quite emtpy. Except during summer holidays.

over 20 VW Karmann Ghias (the locals must have had some meeting)

Yes, an anniversary. "50 years Karmann Gia". You could have seen hundreds of them in Osnabrück.

Nice pictures! I know it's illegal to take pictures on the circuit, but did you get any shots trackside?

The GT4 simulator was at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and at the British GP. Both times it had the Pescerolo at New York, and you had 4 minutes to do 3 laps. Which I failed to do. The left screen didn't work at Goodwood either.

Loving the speedo piccie :)

I took a few shots trackside but all are zoomed. If you look in my thread named "trip to germany" you'l find them. Taken at Pflanzgarten and Brünnchen. Promise to take more and better shots when I go there the next time!

Say you live here in the states, what do you need to drive on the autobahn or on any european/ german roads???

A international License, easy to get.

I'm not 100% sure but I think you'll need a "green card" for european roads. It's for warranty things if something happens. Maybe you could e-mail or ask directly from some european travelling agency or somewhere where they know those things better than me at least :)
