I was just doing mission 29 and something really funny happened: I got all cross handed and hit the handbrake. For about .5 of a second I couldn't get my thumb off the handbrake whilst accelerating and turning.

I thought I had blown it but it as it turns out I actually beat the mission on that attempt. I had been getting closer and closer and the previous run I was 1.005 seconds behind.

Watching the replay was hilarious as you can see the vette comming out of the double turn (u turn) and then the hand brake comes on, tail sticks out, lots of smoke and the driver giving it opposte lock whilst trying not to drive into the blue car... :)

Mission 29 is kicking my ass.

I've always sucked at Infineon, and I continue to suck in this mission.

:yuck:

Patience, patience mate. It took me 8 attempts (less than the 14 for M26)
1st attempt missed by 3.88 seconds
2nd attempt missed by 2.337
3rd attempt missed by 2.102 (Including a penalty)
4th attempt missed by 1.544
5th attempt DNF
6th attempt DNF
7th attempt missed by 1.024
8th attempt got it by 0.309

The frustrating part for me was that I like infineon and I had just done M28 (by 3.71) in one attempt. M28 is at Fuji 2005 which I haven't raced much and I really don't like it....

I can't get any closer than 1.6 seconds behind the lead car

And I've tried a lot more than eight times. It just gets so damn frustrating...

I was drifting my Lancia Stratos around the 'Ring last night, and as I was coming out of the Wipperman Complex, the last turn is a slightly uphill right after a downhill stretch, and it usually gives an awesome drift replay with the car smoking sideways at the camera.

I whipped it up, and the car caught the rumble strip so I threw a bunch of counter steer at it, and caught the E-brake, wound up doing Manji Drifts down the next straight to somehow throw it into the next Downhill left perfectly.

Quite shocking when it happens on accident, glad to hear you were able to recover though.

I found that I made the biggest gains in two places:
1. Long left hander after the hill. Downshift to third right after the hill and stay in the midde of the track. touch the brakes once or twice so that the car is going almost straight for the strips. Then turn to the left at full lock and put the pedal to the metal. Lots of tire screeching and the car willl go almost in a direct line, almost touch the strips on the left and then it will seem to shoot across for the other side of the track. keep the full lock to the left and the throttle down. The car will almost touch the strips on the other side of the track. keep the lock on. It will suddenly start going to the left. Quickly but smoothly unwind the steering whilst keeping the foot down. You should now be about to catch up to pos 5.
2. Hairpin at the end (second last turn?). Full throttle down the approaching straight. Pos 2 in your sight. Foot down until the shift light starts flashing. Downshift to 2nd (from 4th) and full lock to the right whilst accelerating a little. It will look like you are going to hit No 2 but he is going so slow that he will be sticking to the wall on the right side. Your car will understeer a little so you will actually be on his left (you won't be able to see him). Don't accelerate too much (maybe just hold the speed).. all you can see is the wall in front of you.. as soon as you start seeing road again put the foot down and go. You will be just a nose ahead of pos 2 and able to see pos 1 entering the next turn. The key thing is not to come out of the turn behind pos 2 as he will be moving to the left and block you. Trying to avoid him will cost you the mission.

Dunno if that will help you but I reckon those two things were the deciding factors in my success.

Really shoching... and everything goes into slow motion whilst you mentally yell at your self "Why is the hand brake on? GET YOUR THUMB OFF THE HAND BRAKE YOU SAUSAGE FINGERS!!!!"

:)

yeah.. i've pressed the handbreak on the DFP by accident a few times while racing... and it is not fun. I still win anyways most of the time but it is an unpleasant suprize. :grumpy:
