Hi, I'm thinking about getting Tropico 5 for my brand new, "release day version" PS4. Have any of you played this game yet? Is it worth getting? In the past, I've played Tropico game before, and I really enjoyed it. The one I played was for PC and it was the 3rd installment.

This is one of the free PS Plus games for May. Downloaded it yesterday and played through the Tutorial.
It looks really interesting and fun to play, much deeper than I expected. I'm probably going to sink a lot of time into this one.

Downloaded this and the other free PS+ game last night, can't wait to try it when I get home.

Had a go at this yesterday and it's a lot more fun than I expected. Spent several hours getting from the colonial era to modern times on the largest map and managed to get to 2002 before a number of uprisings (because I arrested anyone found out to be a rebel) ended up with my palace being destroyed. Had quite a few close elections during it including one in the 70's where I *technically* cheated because I was going to get 49% of votes and ended up with 52%

Tried to go from Colonial to Modern again today, this time with unlimited funds, and managed to get up to 1952 this time, mainly because, as the rebels were attacking my army bases, the USSR sent rebels to go after my palace (for siding with the USA) so I ended up with no troops to defend me, and the game autosaved just after the last of my troops were wiped out.

Some screenshots of my island at the time of it's demise:

I loved Tropico... 3? Then I hate the save/load bug and gave up. How does #5 fare? I hadn't even realised it (or #4) existed.

Played it most of the day today. I remember playing one of the older ones ages ago on a friend's PC, so when I saw it for free I was shocked. Fair to say I'm pretty happy with Sony this month. This is the best PS+ free game by far since I got my subscription!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this game usually around $80 on PSN? It's a hell of a lot of game for free. PS+ once again turning out to be a bargain compared to XB Live.

It's a full price game indeed. And an incredibly addictive one.

I've been thoroughly enjoying this game the last two days. Did a bit of the campaign, which is interesting. I also started a normal game, and started at the Colonial era, on one of the largest islands (I think). I'm now in the modern era, and feel like I've fully explored each era, and now I understand the game well.

During the World Wars era, and into the Cold War era, I was having problems with rebels growing in number and attacking stuff. I was assassinating the leaders when they'd rise up, and when I got a prison in place I was imprisoning a lot of them, but this led to high civil unrest, so from that point on I was careful to balance my actions toward the rebels.

I used the World Wars and Cold War eras to build a strong economy, first resource based, and then I moved into manufacturing, using my own resources. The Island had quite a bit of gold, which was useful once I had the ability to build jewelry workshops. It also had a lot of oil, which was very useful indeed. However, once I had reached the end of the Cold War era, I had all but run out of natural resources on my island. thankfully, I had already built a massive tourism industry and quickly set up good relations with other nations to allow cheap importing of the resources I needed to expand my manufacturing capabilities.

I now have the vast majority of the island covered with a very dense city. I have very good happiness in all areas, a population of over 1600, 95% popular support (goes between 90 and 100%), rebel threat and civil unrest has been at none for the entire modern era, and good relations with every nation. I also have built an economy with a surplus of $3million, despite having enacted a lot of expensive legislation, and bumped the budget of the majority of businesses and other buildings higher than average.

Now this island is self-sufficient, and nothing goes wrong at all, but it just makes me want to start again from nothing, on a completely different type of island. Loving this game :gtpflag:

Edit: Kept playing on that save for another hour, and now the city is even more dense, approval is a solid 100%, and happiness is peaking across the board. My budget is also over 6 million in the green, despite me having put pretty much every building on max budget, and enacting every good legislation. Population is well over 2k.

I forgot to download this last month when it was PS+ free.
It's U.S.$66 now.

I played SimTower, SimCity 2000 and SimCity 4 back in the day and remember liking the genre.

I never played the Civilization series but those games looked pretty fun too.

Yeah the $80 I referred to was Aussie dollars. $66US sounds pretty steep actually. That's $90AU.

Edit: Unlucky that you forgot to download it free though mate. I had a lot of fun with it, but I don't reckon I'd pay full price for it. This month we've got another full price game on offer for free, NBA 2K16. Not a big basketball fan myself, but I used to enjoy basketball games when I was a kid (NBA Jam on Sega, and NBA Courtside on N64), so I certainly won't turn down a new NBA game for free!
