Any ideas Jordan why IE8 (I can't say for other versions) is doing such a poor job of downloading zip files from this forum? It gives the impression the download has gone fine, but the xls file inside the zip no longer works!

I was able to re-create this issue on Windows 7 x64, but don't know why it is happening or when this started (I have never received any other reports of such a problem). Interestingly, the zip file I tried seems to be a completely different size when downloaded in IE8 vs. Chrome. Famine's car database, for example, is 105KB when downloaded in IE8 and 113KB when downloaded in Chrome. The closest discussion I was able to find about the issue was this, regarding IE7. Apparently, there was a bug in the way the browser handled gzip compression (something that GTPlanet employs to compress web pages before they are delivered to your browser) which resulted in a similar error.

Though there doesn't seem to be anything I can do about this, it would be interesting to know if others are getting it as well (and if you know when you first started to experience it).

That's odd. I used to have this problem a few years ago, but it seemed to be resolved when I switched from Winzip to 7zip. However, I just tried Famine's GT5 Car database you linked to, and the problem has resurfaced in IE8 on windows XP. Tried again with Firefox and all was well.

I have this problem. I download the file fine but when i try to open it it says there's been an error. When looking at the folder in my documents it says the zip folder is empty.
