I used to use the phono cables you get with the PS3, running the Video input to my TV, then Audio to my amplifier - thus into my speakers giving a nice sound.

Got a new TV though, an HD TV.

I've now got my HDMI cable, from my PS3 into my TV. However, the TV I got doesn't have any outputs for sound, other than optical out. It does though, have 2 SCART sockets on it. They both have little arrows underneith them, pointing opposite ways to eachother suggesting that they will allow audio/video input and also output audio/video.

I've seen those scart to phono blocks about, with tiny switches on them ''output/input''. Do you reckon this could be my solution?

(amp does not have any other inputs other than phono btw).

I'd suggest skipping the TV altogether. You can output video from the PS3 to the TV with the HDMI and use the AV from the PS3 to the receiver/amp for audio.

Side note - if you're interested, I'd also suggest getting a new receiver with, at a minimum, fiber and preferably HDMI for audio. Two channel stereo, even with pseudo-surround, doesn't do the PS3 justice. I completely understand if this isn't an option, though. I know my wife isnt' a fan of me buying new gear.

You should at least get a surround set that has a optical input to use with the PS3.

Can you confirm this?

If so, any tips on how to acheive this? I've got the AV lead still plugged into the PS3. Is there an option to send only Video down the HDMI and send Audio only, to my amp?

Edit: Life saver! Found the options, HDMI Video to TV AV Audio phono's to amp :D

Thank you!

P.s. my floor standing speakers are sufficeint for my bedroom.

Congrats and you are very welcome - even though I really didn't do much. :D

At some point, I'd still suggest an audio upgrade. 👍
