New text:

does anyone have a "must have" list of drivers for Windows 8.1? Like sound drivers, internet drivers, graphics card drivers etc?

I really don't want the same issue with sound in certain games on Win 8.1 that I had before. And probably other things.

So I got promted to download and install the latest Nvidia driver 331.82, and ShadowPlay.

However, when trying to install ShadowPlay, the GeForce Experience program just closes and nothing happens. Tried reinstalling drivers etc etc and rebooting.

Same with the new driver, it just pops up a message saying "failed to install driver" or "installation cannot continue", or thereabouts.

Running GTX 780.

Now, I have deleted everything, GeForce Experience and everything with Nvidia, and trying to download it again. Still getting the same error, if I am lucky. Most of the time it just closes.

Gahh...

Anyone know how to fix this?

Ok, so this is the error i'm getting when I have performed a "clean install" (at least it said it would be).

I normally deselect GeforceExperience. Can't stand the thing and I've heard it can cause a lot of problems.

I never install that piece either since I'm fine choosing my own settings in games. I'm doubt that would be causing this install issue, but you might try only selecting one thing at a time and seeing what happens.

Never had any issues with it, until this latest driver.

I did try selecting 1 and 1, and even none. Same issue.

Ended up re-formatting to Win7 to see if it works now.

Edit: It seems to work now, finally.

Strange, there must be some kind of compatibility issue with that driver and Windows 8.1.

That "must have" list of drivers is going to depend on your specific setup. Best place to start is at the website of your motherboard manufacturer. They usually provide any motherboard, chipset, onboard audio, and onboard Ethernet drivers you should need.

Don't know, but it works fine with Win7. Which I am going to stick with for the time being.

Thanks.

Spent the entire evening installing, uninstalling, restoring, installing, uninstalling and re-installing but I think the drivers finally took for my 770.

I spent about 10 hours fiddling with installing and re-installing etc etc... Before I went with a clean install of Windows 7.

I am gonna stick with Win7 a bit more. At least it's working. And the sound is back to good times.
