I didn't want to waste money buying a truck so I kept hoping I could either buy a used one or win one in a race. I'm over 40% now and I have not seen a single one. :grumpy:

Are there any trucks in the used car lots?

Do you win any trucks in any non-truck race? If yes, in which race?

No.

To everything.

What he said. :)

If you are 40% into the game you shouldn't have to worry about spending 30-40k. I'd suggest the Tacoma X-Runner (Toyota) with some minor tuning. Try a racing exhaust and supercharger. The only truck you'll have to worry about is the Chevy SST concept, but you will be able to block him on the straights and pull away out of turns.

If you're trying to play the "cheap" way... look for Havok and oldguy on the GameFAQs board. I think oldguy may be Mr. Slow here. Believe he had something in the writeup section too....

Ah yes... here it is:

Thanks for the plug 👍

BUT... I am not oldguy... I will go to GameFAQs and check it out (never been there)

55% and only one car bought (89' MX5 for a whooping $5900)

I thought I won my Chevy SS.

You did, but it wasn't your first truck. You win the SS in the Sport Truck races, which you needed a truck to enter in the first place! :)

Thats right!!!!!!!!!!!

That was soooo long ago I forgot. I knew I had an SS but didn't really remember how I got it. I won it with the Tacoma I think.

Ahh... I had seen oldguy was working on the same idea and assumed...

I will now hang my head in shame! :guilty:

Havok has a FAQ he's been working on based on not buying cars, but it keeps getting rejected for some reason. Which is a shame because it seems like a cool idea. Perhaps you could lend a hand?

Be wary of GameFAQs, there's plenty of good info to be had but it's a very "sketchy" (read:trollish) neighborhood :sly:

I had one vauge thought on the whole concept:
Seems like trying to make it through the game spending the least money and selling every car you don't use might be intersting? The other rule is that you can never repeat a race. So the person spends the least and has the most money at the end wins!

the tacoma is the best truck, l337 handling wit a few mods it can beat plenty of sports cars. 👍

Just buy the Ford it's only roughly 35,000. If you win all the events and sell it and the Silverado prize car, it should more than cover the initial cost.

Just buy the Dodge Ram, it's such a good looking car and it just goes like nothing that size should
And yes, fully tuned it will trash a stick viper 8)

Well, I was thinking of doing a wiki entry for the GTPlanet wiki project once I get to 100% complete with a "Shortest path" kind of diagram (but with $$) so I guess helping with the GameFAQ entires wouldn't be much different

I have been following the 'never repeat a race' with the exception that I allow for winning a championship race once as practice before doing the whole championship.

The issue with selling the cars you don't use and then comparing cash in hand is that it would be too cumbersome to verify that you really didn't use that car. It would mean competitors having to keep detailed diaries and then someone actually reading them and comparing to the car list in the garage to avoid cheats. If you don't allow for cars to be sold then it is pretty straight forward as you can simply compare the status screens...

Dodge RAM for a very good reason - 200 A-spec points in those races, plus a few others too. useful, but a tad cheap method of getting them. Speaking of cheap -really, where's the fun in NOT buying cars?? The game gives you money for that reason, playing such that you spend as little as possible seems like an unnecessary headache. But thats only my opinion; each unto their own.

GameFAQs is a bad place for meaningful FAQs. Their first criteria before they even bother to look at content is "size". That is why you rarely see good short FAQs there that discuss a small topic in depth. And for some reason their GT4 FAQs are well below their old standard of quality... lots of noise, brutally incomplete (their used car FAQ is a joke), and very little truly useful content.

Also, their GT4 board is full of lies and insults and little "help each other" content. I started there but quickly run away and moved over to GTPlanet. (I still use them for other - typically older - games).
