Does anyone else try to maintain the true spirit of drifting? It seems like people are just drifting race cars or fully modded cars. Almost all of my drift cars have less then 300hp with the exception of like 3(out of 30something). I don't buy brake balance controllers, custom lsd, weight reductions, or any drivetrain mods other than clutch and fly wheel, motor nothing besides comp. and exhaust, and rarely turbo mods... Some tracks are hard to drift like this, but what's the point of it being easy? Please tell me there are others who drift with realistic settings like mine...if not oh well...screw me...

yea well i upgrade all drivetrain and stage 2 reduction, then add some hp if needed and maybe sport suspension

sometimes i just leave it stock for the heck of it

my car are between 350 and 500 hp because i like to make long drifts like on aprictot hill on that big turn before you go straight and then into the hairpin :D

DrifterYamez do you use the hand brake or the brake to drift?:D

i can drift every turn in Complex string with a 300 hp car.....even the extremely long ones

every single one...DMAN that's pretty hardcore:trouble:

its not that hardcore if you have the right settings and your car wheel's continue to spin you can make drifts as long as you want 👍

Personally i prefer stock cars. Normally i tune the car just slightly with level 1 turbo, tripple plate clutch and full-mod suspension.
Drifting with an overpowered car is just lame.

i disagree. if we had small tracks like autumn ring back in GT1 and GT2, remember that? then u can take a low powered car and put some crap tyres on it and then drift around. we have truly massive tracks in GT3, and everything seems to be slower compared to the previous 2 games, so high powered cars simply enable you to get to ur next drift much more quickly! :D

check out my skyline drift settings, thread called "skyline drift settings, fast, easy and fun" for a 1000+hp drift machine

;)

Driving fast with megapowered cars was fun for a while, but it doesn't feel as good as driving a well balanced stock car.
And if the car isn't fast enough, you don't have to go overboard and max it out. Besides, there's a lot more challenge to drift an underpowered car.
And naturally, the car doesn't have to have 100500hp to be fast.
In some tracks the horsepower can even slow your time, cause you can't go all out when exiting a corner.

fair, but the game isn't really representative is it? in real life, i drive a 40hp vauxhall (opel) astra. even though it has 40hp and i can wheel spin it till u are blue in the face. 300 hp is more than anyone needs in real life, but either the tyres are too good in gran turismo or something else is amiss. in order to get the feel for what a 300 hp car would be in real life u need to pump it up to about 800 or 900 hp. in my opinion.

but i have to agree with u that a perfectly balanced car feels much better than one that just has power and straight line speed. all im saying is that my 1000hp r34 has it all heh :P

4WD cars will go faster if u put more hp in them...usually.....for FR cars, yes it'll corner slowly IF you have over 350 hp......300 hp is usually how much hp you need to drift corners like the LONG ones in Complex String. I mean seriously...you can't drift those corners with 150......at least not the whole corner.

Why not? I managed to drift every single corner in complex string with a stock ZZS, and it's just 150hp (i think).

FRs are best around 200-350 and 4WDs are fine from 300 to 400hp.
I don't know about FFs since i haven't drifted them much, but my lil bro says that under 250 is fine. Any more and it'll understeer heavily when accelerating.

Oh and, the less power the more challenging it gets. Really powerful cars are more forgiving, cause you can patch up mistakes during drift with the power.

lol i haven't drifted with many MR cars yet...maybe i should try it out ^_^

what car did yu use?

Mazda RX-7 FC (the old one)
Toyota Sprinter Trueno ^_^

ah, the easy cars imo ^^

has neone ever tried to drift the escudo?

since im a dork i spent hrs or time tuning the suspension on my 251hp shigeno trueno and im the fastest drifter on the block

hey thio i tried it a while back, i couldnt get the damn thing to turn, and when the turbo kicked in... in did like 3 rolls so i gave up.... drifting on complex string...all of daT!? wow you even got props from bustwave!

hmm, never thought of doing that. Seems like since its at your grasp you dont think of keeping it like real life. Good point.

My favorite drift car is the 240SX K's Aero (Kouki S14) 240HP on sims.....

I can completely link almost any track in GT3, with this car.... A lot of power is unecessary.... You only need enough power to get the wheels spinning... Too much power (and the wrong tire choice, sometimes) will upset the balance of the car, and will make the car more unstable....

;)

It's been while when I posted last....

I think drifting is easier with 200-300bhp cars. Why real-life professionals would use that bhp cars if it wasn't the easiest way? My drifting cars in GT3 are very different, one of my favourites are 200SX with about 300bhp, it's fun to drive because it's so easy, then I drift with +400bhp NSX, I can made very stable and long drifts with it and it's very enjoyable (MR and high bhp). Then comes my monster drifters :D , they are like 500bhp Camaro, 500-700bhp Supra and 800bhp 300ZX. When you are driving through a corner completely sideways with +800bhp 300ZX at 200km/h with sims under your ass, then you really feel the spirit of drifting. But I'm not saying that's the most realistic way to drift, but that's wasn't what you meant, right?

hell ya d00d....im the same...me and my bro jeff...we are making a movie of this kinda thing...hit me up at tom_dawg@comcast.net and we can maybe plan something out for u to be in it...later

I prefer drifting high horsepower cars for one reason... it's easy, it looks cool, and it's what I'm used to.

I got into GT3 drifting for 3 reasons

1: Initial D, inspired (you could also say looks)
2: Challenging (and fun)
3: Cudaman, and the guy at MPCON who SHOWED me Cudaman (I hope he posts here... can't remember his name worth ANYTHING)

Reason #3 wasn't a part of it. I would attempt to drift my cars all the time, but never could. SO! I started to think it was impossible, and gave up... then that one awesome day where I saw Grandorifto II.

And for the next few months... GT3 was the only game in my PS2... cept when my brothers took it out...

Then, after alot of practice, i still couldn't drift large corners... so I bought a wheel... And for many months after that, to this day (about 2 years ago?) on and off, I drift...

THEN I GOT KAIDO BATTLE II: CHAIN REACTION!!!!

A race game where you drift... and ontop of that, the physics arn't to far off from GT3... it plays more sim then in does arcade in other drift games... infact it's awesome... just... GT3 looks a little better, and stuff... Still, everyone should get Kaido Battle II.

Spirit of drifting?

The spirit of drifting is to drift cause you love to drift. Drive cause you love to drive. Spin out all the time, just so you can learn how it is you do drift!

This post doens't make anysence... so w00000000000000000000000000!

Forgive me if I am wrong but what does horsepower have to do with drifting? I myself would be more concerned with torque to weight.

I think this is the first, good point, you have ever made here.....

The HP(or torque) to weight ratio is the most important aspect of building a balanced drift car....

That, and the right tire choice, to go with the weight/HP.....

hell yea i keep it 300 and below. I guess I just buy everything for suspension except performance mods. I dont mess with camber or suspension unless I need to (you really don't need to adjust camber). Usually tho, all i really need are SIMs and 2-way diff. But I brought up this topic before and realized that this is just a game so you could really do stuff you couldnt do in real life.

BTW, the Silvia R is probably THEE best drift car out there. Slap on sims and a 2-way lsd and you could drift that thing like crazy (dont forget oil change).

Driving with a new stock RX-7 FD and simulation tires, and maybe some sports brakes, is actually pretty easy and fun. The car is powerful enough as it is.

has neone ever tried to drift the escudo?
I might give a rear-wheel drive Escudo with maybe a Speed 12 motor a shot. But for a 'regular' escudo, no, ain't happenin' (way too much push, and power-push). Even the Speed 12 motor's a little too much, might go for a C4 motor.
