Trying to find a better line. I'm 'obeying' the computer's line and braking/modulating throttle 'correctly', but still having a hell of a time trying to eke out the final half second (or whatever the difference between silver and gold is).

It's killing me.

I found a nice thread about it from about a year ago, but all the vido links are dead.

TIA for any help...

p.s. What do I get out of this? A stinking NB Miata, right? Sheesh. :)

...

Ahhh... But here's the good news, that MIata can win the Roadster Endurance with only an oil change. So basically, you gold the B license, win the roadster Endurance, and on day 50 (49 days for the license tests) you're sitting pretty with over 100,000k in the bank. Purchase a Mustang and T2 tires, and you can clean house at the PD cup. $$

I don't recall which license test it is, so I can't comment. I'll take a look at it tomorrow morning and post up any hints or thoughts I have.

enuttage, which version do you have? NTSC or PAL?

if you have the NTSC version, the line they give you is pretty good except you can cut in sharper on the first turn and cut in closer to the rocks on the curve before the second tunnel.

i found that the keys to this test, are nailing the the second turn (the first turn after the first tunnel, the one that is blind and is sharply right), and most importantly, the angle and exit speed out of the second tunnel. watch the demonstration for these two turns, the computer does them very well.

the secret to that turn out of the second tunnel is letting go of the gas, and getting a good angle as close as u can to the left wall, so that you can hold on to the gas the entire way without going wide and hitting the wall down on the right. you'll also see that you'll need to get a great exit speed, which means that you should be doing it without screeching ur tires, which robs alot of speed. hopes this helps. also view the demonstration a couple times for this again.

if you have the PAL version and the time limit is much harder or something, then i dunno what to tell you =)

i'm sure it took me a while back when i started playing GT3 last june, but i remember this clearly cuz i gave it a try last night and it took me 3 tries, so once you get it you'll remember it very well.

i just found out the PAL version you need a 42.800 as opposed to NTSC's 43.000. that .2 sec difference is considerable. regardless, just keep at it. there's is no license test i couldn't gold so far (up to IA) with just brute perseverence and the occasional luck from trying so many times :sly: . like most things in life, if you keep at it, things will eventually work out.

The B license gold is makeable even on PAL. Where is that test (not played GT3 in a while). On the Japanese GT3 I golded the B and the A... eventually.

I just spent 2 hours tonight testing my new DFP setup for rigidity in wait for GT4 and decided to gold the rest of the B licenses too.

B-8 took me damn near 2 hours to finish, WITH the DFP, I have no clue how long it would have taken with the DS2...

after 5 tries, I hit 43:1500 and for the next hour and a half didn't budge from there at all... so if it's happening to you... lemme tell ya, it's normal.

anyways, helpful tips would be in the first corner, hold it in second gear until the apex of the turn, then shift to third. At the braking section for the 2nd corner, brake very hard but only briefly, and shift immediately to second, then take that one as close to the rumble strip as you can without screwing up the behavior of the car.

Also as already mentioned, the key to the last turn is holding off the gas , to avoid the horrible understeer of the R32, getting a good steering angle close to the left wall, a little to the left of the line, then running the gas all the way through without spinning your tires.

Good luck with it, yeah you do only get a stinkin miata, but the satisfaction from completeing such a taxing and grueling test is priceless.

I've got gold on PAL beating 42''800;
Here is the trick:

Go like the demo replay (42''650+), then make a larger line on the straight stretch before the last corner, and touch the rocks on your left; it decreases your speed without brakes and let you make last corner without release the accelerator (like the demo replay)
Remember that the only way to reach gold is high speed on last corner exit (on the tunnel entry)

Wow. Thanks guys! I'll try out the suggestions mentioned here. I came pretty close to 100% in GT3, but got bored waiting for 4 the last couple of weeks and started over. Once I started trying the get the gold on the B tests, now I HAVE to finish. :)

And you're not kidding about the understeer in that thing. It's horrible. I have no idea if that's true to life or not, but it's frustrating, that's for sure.

I'll fire up the DFP tonight, and attempt it again with all of your help. Thanks!

OK, took 12 runs at it tonight before I posted a 42.998.

Start in 1st gear, reved to the limit before the 3,2,1. Launch, and wind the engine right up the rev limiter. Shift to second and wind that to about 7000 (68mph). This should put you at shifting to 3rd right at the beginning of the first tunnel. as you stab the brakes (86mph) for the hairpin right, downshift to second. Just as you clear the rock outcrop, you should hit third gear again. It'll feel early for third, put the skylines have more power at a slightly lower RPM. You'll pull much harder at this lower rpm which is tantamount to gaining speed through the canyon.

I didn't follow the Demo lines for when to drop the power, as I only dropped it once. I did slack off to about 3/4 throttle, to curb the under steer. This car responds really well to throttle steering. It also responds well to light input on the steering.

I cut the left corner harder in on the rumble strips to pull me through the right hander before the tunnel. this gets you lined up for the tunnel earlier, and you can gain a bit more speed. I did a very fast stab of the brakes (I've seen others with a wheel tap the brakes and not let off the gas here) as I hit the tunnel
and eased it over left. You can come amazingly close to the far left end of the tunnel, and that will help you clear the corner into the last tunnel.

Coming out of the middle tunnel smoothly will help you badly carry needed speed into the final straight. Shift at about 7000 rpm and you'll pull harder across the stretch.

Here's my time.

der alta, take the pal challenge and make 42.800
even i can break a flat 43 in my sleep and i suck ;)

to the original poster, you know the game provides you with a demo video right? my biggest holdback was braking too early and starting a drift going into the breaking corner. i can bust out a 42.7xx, and i don't need to tap any walls either. when you're on the edge (the braking corner, and the big liftoff corner) try to accelerate when the front wheels are straight only

Yeah. I watched it. Hasn't helped me much. :)

Ahhh, the powers of observation. 💡

I put many hours into this test, too. Sometimes I go back to to refresh myself with it.
For some, like me, this is one of the toughest tests in GT3, but perseverance pays off.

Cheers,

I have. But I only bothered with B, and A licenses.

The one listed here was a short test. In the past 4 months, I've run one race (Roadster Enduro, in a fully stock (and burnt oil) Miata J @ 137 hp (I think)). If I were to spend another hour or so, I'd get down to the PAL time.

For now, I was just proving it could be done. (And by someone that is "Mr. P - 2seconds" ;) )

I had a go at B8 last night. (Pal)
First run was 43.4xx
second run was 43.0xx
third run the same.
fourth & fith runs was 42.9xx
Sixth run was 42.822
On my seventh run I got a high 42.78x.
My best time ever is 42.666.
That took about 12 minutes in total.
The key to this test is exiting the last turn.
Lightly apply the gas on corner entry and try to get as close to the left of the wall as possible.
Even when you know how to do it it is still hard to get it all perfect.

Edit. 25/02/05.
Lowered my best time to a 42.443 last night.
Loking at Racing Line data base puts me in the top 30 of entered times.

I spent a long time on this myself, and I agree with the previous posts about cutting the first turn a little tighter and being very careful with the other turns (especially 2nd and last... exit speed from that one really is as critical as everyone says it is).

However, I'd also like to add story with a different perspective.

I started out playing GT3 with no real knowledge of how to race well. I was excited to be able to learn from the license tests with the lines to guide me. However, I was concerned that once I got into a real race with no blue/red lines, I wouldn't know what to do. I figured my best chance to beat that would be to practice enough to get all golds.

B-8 gave me the most trouble of all of the B tests but, by the end, I realized what I was doing wrong. I was driving the line instead of driving the car. The thing about following the line is that, if you deviate from it in any way, it becomes irrelevant. Your speed, direction, and momentum don't match up with what the line is telling you what to do. As soon as I realized that I started driving more consistently (not hitting the rocks as much) and, after a little more work, managed to get gold.

Good luck!
