Well it's finally that special time where we conjure up enough cash to buy and invest in a car that defines who we are and makes our passion for the business burn even more... im bull****ting lol anyway yeah i had a lot of fun during high school driving my family's cars but now that im buckled down in college and wanting to study to be a mechanic i think it's the best time to get a nice little car to perhaps practice on or just enjoy. Below i've set a list in no particular order just cars off the top of my head that i really really like but i am open to new suggestions of course. Also, if u want to recommend something not in my list keep in mind that it needs to be easy to find under $20,000. That's really my only restrictions, i don't care if it's FWD, AWD, RWD or its seating capacity or anything like that. Here is my list:
Dodge Neon Srt4
Subaru Impreza Wrx or 2.5rs
Mazda6
BMW E30
BMW M3
BMW 335i
Mercedes 190E
Mercedes S500(90s)
Mitsubishi 3000gt
Mitsubishi Lancer ralliart
Nissan Sentra(2007-)
Nissan 350z
Nissan 240sx kouki
Nissan 300zx
Nissan Altima 2.5(2008-)
Pontiac Trans Am WS6(1998-2002)
Pontiac G8
Dodge Charger
Mazda RX-7(80s)
Acura TL

Since when was an Altima a "tuner" car? Oh yeah, when referring to those kind of cars, just call them imports. Tuner sounds really stupid. I would avoid the year range of Senta you listed. Those things are ugly as all hell. Would you consider a Mazdaspeed3?

Well, a nice E30 325i would be cheap, reliable (as far as I know), easy to modify, and fun.

Yeah it's not exactly ur cliche tuner but it can be tuned. Many of the cars on my list aren't exactly tuner to the core but can still be modified. See? There is a way to correct people without sounding like a condescending d!ck. You call 07-present Sentras ugly and then proceed to recommend a Mazdaspeed3? Yeah, keep talking pal. No hatches please guys.

Ummm ok....

If I had little around 20k to drop on a "tuner" I would buy a car around 7k and spend the rest on mods. You can find great MKIII Supra, MKII MR2s, early BMWs, Miatas, 80s RX7, 300ZXs (you might get lucky and find an early 90s turbo), 3000gts, and any model of Sliva you want, for that kinda money.

I would cross the M3 (unless E36 I suppose) & 335i off the list immediately. $20,000 will only get you a headache of an example.

This, you could get a decent 330i, though those don't have that much mod potential.

How about a nice E39 M5, I think those have pretty much bottomed out, or you could also get a pretty good GTO if you're into muscle.
Also for 20K I think you could get an EVO 8 in decent condition, but that would not leave you much room left over for mods

Nice suggestions, an Evo 8 is one of my dream cars but that's later on down the road once i have more money. Wish i could find older versions of Evos around my area specifically an Evo VI but Evo 8s aren't as rare as i'd expect around here in MI, US. GTO also is a bit pricy and keep in mind i only have around $20k to spend and that includes mods. E39 are extremely rare around here but i have contemplated it.

This site has some bs policies, i just received a warning because i spelled you as "u" ... that's a bit uncalled for and absurd to have that sort of policy if you ask me.
