Post here pictures of your country's tuning cars. Tuning cars means styled (bodykits, painting, decals etc.) and tuned (engine etc.). I would like to see what kind of styles where is in foreign countries...

Well it looks like Taurine has beaten me to the punch for NZ rides but here are some more any way.

I'll post some of my favs. I have others, but since I'm a DSM guy, I'll just show them. Here are some of the fastest...........

John Shepherd - '91 TSi AWD - 8.71@166

Dave Buschur - '97 Talon RWD - 7.87@170

Brent Rau - '97 Eclipse RWD - 7.58@177

Those are just a few of the really fast DSM based cars. There are some really fast street cars too, but I'm sticking to drag cars. Ryan Woon's MKIV Supra comes to mind. Its a street driven 1000+hp monster that runs 9.50s. Lots of real fast street based cars I could mention, but I'll stop now. I could go on forever.......

It was driven on the street for quite a while, wasn't it?
It was at first, but then, like most drag cars, it became too much. Its still technically legal, but its trailered most of the time.

I know DSM stands for Daimond Star Motors but exactly what cars are DSMs? The Mistubishi Eclipse?
There is a short, and long answer to that. In short, its any Eclipse, Talon, or Laser built from '90 to '99. Those are whats called the 1G and 2G DSM, or first and second generation. Some also consider the old Galant VR-4 a DSM as well. It shares just about all of the drivetrain with them, just with a Galant body on top. Wasn't built in Illinois, but still basically the same car, so its often considered one. The long gets more complicated.......

The term DSM is what came about from the joint venture between Chrysler and Mitsubishi. They built a plant in Illinois to build some cars. Those cars I mentioned were the first ones from that plant, besides the GVR-4. But, then, after '99 the Eclipse turned to FWD and no-turbo, and it lots a lot of its appeal. Its still built at the Illinois factory, but most don't consider it a "DSM" for varying reasons, mostly the loss of the AWD and turbo. Also, technically, every car that came out of there was a "DSM" branded car. Everything from the Sebring, Avenger, Stratus.......and on and on. They all are "technically" a DSM because they're from the plant. But, in its simplest term, a real DSM as most consider it is a 1G, 2G, or GVR-4 car. Hope that wasn't too complicated. Its a weird situation.

What is a Laser? The only Laser I know of is the Ford Laser.

Obviously not that. If you don't mind do you have any pictures of one?

The Laser in question is the 1G Plymouth Laser. The 1G cars all looked the same, aside from some minor details. The pic I posted earlier of John Shepherd, thats a 1G Talon TSi. The 1G Eclipse and Laser looked basically identical, except for a different badge up front, and slightly different tail lights. The Laser was dropped after '94, so there was no 2G Laser. Then, from '95 - '99 you have the 2G cars. The 2G cars, the Eclipse and Laser, look a little less similar than the 1G cars did, but still very similar. I'll post a pic of my Talon. Its basically the same as the Eclipse, just some minor differences again. And then, in '98 the Eagle brand was dropped. So, very few '98 Talons were sold, and then the Talon was done. The '99 Eclipse was the last around. I'll post the pic of my car and Shep's again so you can basically see the 1G and 2G cars (coincidentally, both Talon TSi AWDs). Then, I'll find some more pics to show the real differences between models.

There you can see the blunt differences between generations. I'll post more pics in a bit to show the individual changes.

Lasers never came with AWD though, correct? Did they even have turbo Lasers? I always took them to be more the economy runabout than performance beast.

With the 2nd round of the NZDRA competition tomorrow I will get more pictures of the V8's that we drag down here. Hopefully we might, might see the car I mentioned above cut a 7 second pass :D

Thanks for the pics JNasty, very helpful. NZ never got any of these which is a pity. Your car is pretty damn nice. How much stuff have you done to it to get 11s out of it?

@ Taurine: I can't make it to the drags again. If the Rayglass Datto or Reece's R32 crack any quicker times can you fill me in? Thanks.

Nope, they came just like the others. The Laser RS AWD was quite nice. They were definately the least common DSM though, so you just didn't see them often. But, they could have the 4G63T in them, and could be AWD.

Sure man, I doubt Reece's GTR will run after they amount of troubles with the engine they've been having, 1400hp doesn't come easily..

Thanks man. I'm working on rounding up some pics. I'll make a post one of these days showing the differences between models and years.

I have a lot in the Talon. Too much to list, but the major ingredients are........

Wiseco pistons & Eagle Rods (in a 6bolt block)
PTE - SCM61 turbo (ported, .56 trim, T350 turbine, 24psi)
Tial BOV and Wastegate (both vent to atm.)
CAS FMIC (custom short path piping)
AEM EMS (set up for MAS, 2step, and more...)
MSD DIS 2 (10mm wires, NGK plugs)
ACT 2600 clutch (in a Shep built trans)

The list can go on for a while. Basically, I bought the car new in '97, drove it for a while stock-ish. It got the crankwalk, like most do, and died. So, thats when the fun started. Now, its basically fully built for street use. Has a cage, but its not much, easy to get around. Fun car. Even though its AWD, I don't drive it much in the winter. Even with snow tires and AWD, over 500whp can get you in some situations you don't want to be in. So, most of the winter here, my Rubi gets driven and the Talon sits toasty in the garage. I actually drove it today, wasn't bad out, just cold. Fun car. The DSMs with turbo can be very fast. The 4G63 engine in them, same basic engine as the Evo has, is a very good piece. Very strong and mostly reliable. Here are a few more pics of it. In a few days, I'll have that other post up and you can see what ALL the DSM models look like.

Well why don't they just get a stock RB26 and put a 1100hp NAWZ bottle on it. Probably much easier.......

Wow, 500whp what a beast. I'll bet that cost a buck or two. That is a luverly car...

Heh, they don't like nitrous. Croydons used it on their GTR to get to 8.55, Reece went all turbo to get 8.40 - Croydons engine was also under a lot of stress because of it.

I wish I had got a picture of the head, Jun modified head + HKS exhaust manifold + T51R SPL turbo = Would've been a good addition to the 'Header Art' thread..

Wish I had my camcorder on me because as I walked past the garage at work one afternoon they fired it up. :grumpy:
