coming soon...
Hi guys, I'm new here at gtplanet, but not to cars or the game. I see there is already a tuning competition, however I was thinking about starting another one. This one would be for all out speed and fast lap times.(time attack) :sly:

-There would still be the same pre-selected track at which to race.

- We would, instead of having only one particular model of car, have a pre-selected range of cars with pre-selected attributes (ex. a japanese FR layout that is NA with 250hp or less using R3 tires or harder, no NOS.) Obviously you can tune them however you feel fit.:) This than adds to the challenge of tuning as you have to pick a car that suits the track well!

- You get to pick whatever car you want to use that fits the criteria, except for the fact to make it even more challenging there can be no double picks of the exact same car (ex. there can be a Miata 1800 RS and a Miata NR-A:tup: , but not two Miata 1800 RS's:ouch: ). If it is the same exact model but a different chassis or body stlye that will also be accepted ( ex. EK Civic Type-R and EP Civic Type-R:) ). A list of already selected picks would be at the beginning of each week's new thread and updated periodcally. (You will be allowed to enter anytime before thursday night, the deadline for times and set-ups.)👍

- The pick will be first come first serve and will be posted publically on the weeks thread. The thread will always start early monday and will state all of the rules and regulations and will continue on as a thread to talk about the challange.

- If we did start this to keep it interesting I would ask there be no talk of any numbers, statistics, lap times, or help regarding the challange from another gtplanet members at all on the entire forum or through PM's all week.

- You would then PM me your settings and fast lap time (I will not be competing) on thursday evening or sooner.

- On friday there will then be a results thread showing the lap times and the setup and stats of each car and who drove it.

- Then the next competition would start on the following monday.👍

- Then not only will it be a tuning challange, but the setups will add to the vast amount of setups already on gtplanet! They will just all be time attack setups!:)

I have put a lot of thought into this, and think it would be fun, so if anybody thinks it is a good/bad idea or has any suggestions or opinions let me know what you think!💡

This just seems to be a laptime challenge, not a tuning one.

How do you work out whose setup is better if you allow different cars?

What if one tuner is a faster driver than another? The slower driver could have the better setup.

I have to say I agree with you daan, this idea was discussed (and rejected) when the setup for the existing tuning comp was in progress.

Outright speed is already covered in the 300mph+ challenge and the 0-400m/0-1000/1/4 mile challenges, and time attacks are covered to a huge degree in the WRS/OLR and spot race areas.

Lap time quite simply can't be the deciding factor in a set-up for the reasons you have already covered, even the existing comp can be difficult to judge on simply handling and driveability characteristics.

Sorry to say it eg6_dude, as you have obviously put a lot of thought into it, but this really is more in line with the OLR, etc. They already contain a lot of discussion on tuning and set-up, its just a shame you missed the Nurburgring series and Virtual Track day series as they were very close to what you have suggested.

By using more than one car, it's more like car knowledge challenge.

I think this can work if there is permanent judge. To see who can make the best tuning for one particular judge. Anyone know the driving style of the judge better and can make a apropriate tuning for him to reach faster speed will win. Only one car at a time though.

The judge should have the capability of creating video of his way of driving, to make the tuner understand what the judge need.

With this we are like some car tuner trying to please Keiichi Tsuchiya in tuner challenge, where fastest car receive award (although usually best tuned car too).

Maybe the judge can be more than one and duel using Xlink with contestant car and post video for it. This will be a good watch :).
