Welcome to this week's Tuning Competition. Here is everything you need to know to participate.

How it Works

I start the competition every Tuesday, listing the name of the car you are to tune, and which track the settings will be tested at. You will not have to tune at that track, but it is highly recommended, since the judges will be testing there.

The judges are:
  • gregc
  • XGT Taipan
  • To Be Announced
  • To Be Announced
Once the judges are finished testing all the settings, they will rank each of them on the following categories:
  • Turn-in (entry to corners)
  • Mid-Corner response (whether the car under/oversteers mid-corner or holds the racing line well)
  • Corner exit (how quickly you can exit a corner whilst staying in good control)
  • Stability (rear end staying in line, car not 'jumping' or feeling skittish in turns)
  • Grip (start-offs, how much power can be used without the drive wheels losing traction? Does the car oversteer excessively?)
  • High-speed controllability (whether the car becomes 'frantic' and turns far too sharply at high speeds)
  • Handling while braking (are you able to easily turn the car while braking, and without going into oversteer?)
  • Acceleration (how good is it? Is there a lot of traction while doing it?)
Each category will be rated on a scale of 10 (with 10 being the best). Once the ranking is complete, all of the seperate ratings for a set-up from each judge will be compiled together for that one set-up. This is done with all the other settings, and the one with the highest ranking wins.

The judges will also write a mini-report about the settings, and how they felt driving them.

What to Tune, and Where to Tune At

You will have to tune the Toyota Minolta 88C-V @ Special Stage Route 5 (long). You must use R2 tires, and no ASM.

Rules

  • No ASM, ballast, or nitrous is allowed.
  • You can tune the car in any way you wish, as long you use a reasonable amount of parts (ie don't slap on a sports suspension and a 1.5 LSD and expect to be judged)
  • You must list every single part you used in the PM to me with your settings. Failure to do so will result in a deduction of points.
  • You must PM Me your settings, do not post them here. PM them in the following format:

Deadline is Monday, September 18th.

Good luck!

Oh god...whoever puts a full tune on this is nuts. I am most likely going to do this one. Seeing as only 2 people entered for last week. what kind of trap speeds are we going to see? 220 maybe? :trouble:

I'm definatly giving this beast Full Warp... might as well... it's kinda pointless driving it unless you drive it fast

That was Week 10. ;) Thankfully, Week 11 has a lot more entries.

:dunce:

You know which week had 2 entries....

But really, who is going for the full 1215 +/-1 hp?

SPEED IS NOTHING WITHOUT CONTROL

:(
Sad to miss this one. Good luck to everyone taking part, I won't drop huge hints as to what to do but taming it isn't recommended ;)

Well been as how i've gone full whack powerwise on the last two comp's ive enter'd ie: the charger and the zonda i guess i may as well make it three in a row and see if i can tame all 1223 horses round one of my favorite haunts (SS5) count me in (though i do have a defunct mintola that tops out at around 1139bhp too:scared:

I praise anyone that can get this thing slowed up without spinning into the 1st turn with full tune. 👍

I've managed it :), with a full 1223 bph and taking notes from what the judges said about my charger setup (too much TCS), TCS is way down on one *does the monkey dance*

It's just the entry line you take, I did the same a few times. Just get closer to the right side wall so the you don't have to change direction too much under braking.

I take it when you say spinning, you mean under brakes the car locks to the right and hits the right hand wall in the tunnel almost directly head on? Cause that's what I did a few times till I discovered that the line was all wrong.

Too bad I can't participate in this competition, but it sounds like damper problem (corner entry related). I use rear bias damper if that is the problem, aside from tweaking deceleration LSD.

That's true, also a tweaking of the rear stabilisers gets the car nice and easy through the first twist.

But there is still only really one line through that corner if you want to take it fast, if you don't take the correct line, then... :scared: ... I dare not say what comes next! :ouch:

This is a little OT, but aren't you banned?

I've been struggling with this car, I don't know if my setup will meet the deadline.

This is a call for more judges for this week. If anyone interested in the competition but not submitting a setup is reading this, why not become a judge? You only have to do it for as long as you want to, being a judge for this week only is perfectly OK. If you'd like to do it (maybe even think you'd be good at it ;)) and have the time, put your name forward in the thread or PM Duck!
A single judge for a week doesn't really work, we need to get varied opinions from varied drivers so please, if you can judge, do so! Thanks in advance to anyone who helps out 👍

Just doing my bit, I may be retired myself but I can work on getting a replacement!

When is the judges deadline for results? Im just finishing a whole load of work thats kept me out of last weeks comp and this one too but I may have some time in the week to take part in judging at least.

I'll second this. I'm judging the Zondas solo this week, and while I'm happy doing it the tuners are only getting my opinion - which means the results are going to be skewed in favour of the setups that suit my driving style. To get a balanced result, and good info for the people entering the competition we really need at least 2 and preferably 3 or even 4 judges.

Come and help out - it takes a bit of time, but no more than you'd spend on one of the shorter enduro races, it's good fun, and you'll learn a thing or two along the way 👍 :D

I'll be sending out the settings tomorrow, so the deadline for judging will be the 25th or 26th.
