Hi!

I've opened this thread because I couldn't fine any who had approached this for the SCC.

Following Hun's advise/suggestion after an online race this past weekend, I've put myself to unlock the 250 Testa Rossa so I could tune it in order to get more competitive lap times. My 'test track' is Monza where from a lap time around 2'31''... I've been decreasing it up to 2'26'' which is my current time. Lowering ride height was heavily responsible on the way the car handles but when it comes to fine tuning I've found out the for spring stifness, anti-roll bar and damper there's no fine tuning at all. It's either (full) soft or (full) hard. Only ride height, camber and toe seems to enable fine tuning. Does this happen (which I suppose) to you guys and, if so, what did you do to overcome this lack of fine tuning?

All I would say is that Monza is a slightly odd one to use as a test track. Mugello is fairly well balanced or maybe Infineon or Silverstone?

I used Infineon lately (Corvette C6R)... But in the end there is no real all-round setup as far as I have seen. Every track requires a bit of tweaking here and there... some are more bumpy then others etc, etc. Basically when I tune, I take it out stock first... figure out what I want to improve after a few laps and go to those settings which help the things Im trying to improve, from there fine tune what you can... Of course in SCC there are some aspects which are not really "fine-tunable." Also some basic knowledge of when to adjust certain things like camber and toe or what the outcome of certain adjustements will be is definately needed and recommended... Ive read a crapload of stuff on the net, so its only a couple clicks away if you need it. Ive only just jumped into the whole tuning scene in SCC and Im seeing how far you can go in the different areas and how things affect the car to get the wanted results... As stated before in one of the other threads Im busy with the C6R at Infineon at the moment and I think I can still go a bit more extreme with the tuning... I've only done minor adjustments until now and already dropped from :39s to high :35s... I just want 1 or 2 more secs and I'll be happy :)

Weird, I just did a bit of tuning on the DBR9 at Spa. I mainly worked on the ride height by reducing it and I discovered that you only seem to gain anything through the Fagnes chicane and Stavelot where the rear felt more stable than before, but otherwise the ride was just too bumpy to make any gains, and that's even with just -0.01 both front and rear. I imagined it would give me more grip through Eau Rouge, Les Combes chicane and Malmedy but it was the opposite. I found it harder to take Eau Rouge flat and it messed up my line when I did, and then the entrance to Les Combes was bumpy and unsettled the car for the next 2 corners. Also, coming out of the Bus stop chicane the revs stutter as the car bounces up and down off the surface 👎

I might actually try raising the ride height next time to see what happens.

The DBR9, even stock, is a twitchy beast, so it doesn'rt surprise me that lowering it makes its twitchyness even worse ...

Yes, it actually reminded me of the beta version of the car, and I was achieving similarly slow lap times.

The big time-savers are aerodynamics, and gear ratios. These are left out of SCC. So the rest is mostly for personal feel, and taking account of bumpy tracks etc. I don't think there's any big raw-speed gainer in the setup, unfortunately.

Try increasing the camber (to the negative), the front more than the rear. If the surface is smooth/flat enough, ideally use hard springs, lower the ride-height, stiff anti-roll - these may save some times.

In SCC, my opinion is that setups may make it easier to achieve times, but possibly won't just give you extra raw speed. To make an integral analysis of setup changes, you need to be at your potential with the circuit (lines, braking points etc), and not improving your technique as you're making changes. I still do this all the time!

Hi guys

I appreciate the answers but I think you're missing the point of my question (or maybe I haven't put it down accurately...)

Besides ride height, camber and toe adjustment that can be fine tuned, either springs, dampers and roll bars cannot - or at least I can't! They'll only allowed for 2 optiona sets: soft or stiff (bar cursor full left or right).

Its weird because you've either have very soft springs or very hard ones: no intermediate levels. How do you compensate that inability to fine tune some items? Compensate by increasing/decreasing other elements, like ride height?

I think you answered your own question there... :D The inability to fine tune certain aspects can be compensated for with the other settings like ride height... but which settings you exactly need to adjust to compensate, depend on the track and track surface.. 👍

I like having less choice. It makes it easier to make the right decision. For example, if we only have a choice between hard and soft springs, and the circuit is bumpy, then you know which one is probably best to choose and can get on with driving.

What I don't like is the inability with SCC to change the gear ratios, and to a lesser extent the aerodynamics.

Being able to change gear ratios would be great... To bad its not in... I also miss different tire types though.. Like qualifying tires and stuff, but I guess without tire wear theres not much point in different compound tires :D Oh well, you cant have everything...
