A little question for you turbo guys out there. About a month ago my brother bought a 98 Lotus Esprit GT3 with a few modifications done to it (Brembo big brake kit, de-cat stainless exhaust, ram-air intake conversion and its's also been chipped) now when he first got it the power and acceleration was incredible, when you first put your foot down nothing happens, then theres a holy crap moment as the turbo starts to spin up, then theres a holy **** moment as the power really kicks in and your pushed into the seat. Now the other day he was saying that it feels like it's lost a chunk of it's power so I had a drive of it and noticed it to. You still get the holy crap moment and it's still very quick but it's like the holy **** stage never happens anymore. We checked all the usual stuff, pipes, plugs etc.. was wondering if there's anything else we should be looking at. Any help would be appreciated, cheers 👍

Replace the chip.

My brother had a similar problem on his Impreza RB5. It was traced to an undeclared (by previous owner) aftermarket chip. Replaced with the "manufacturer" PPP chip, the power came back.

There isn't a  smiley... Dunno - especially not when it comes to engine-in-the-boot...

Do a boost leak test, check to make sure your hitting proper boost and that the turbo is not shot.

Thanks for the suggestion, is this a test that can be done at home or is it going to have to go into a shop?
Cheers

Yes you can do it yourself. All you have to do is make sure you have no leaks at all, get a vacumm gauge and plug it into one of the vacumm lines.

what psi does he run it at usually?? my 94 supra turbo(single T67) runs at 14psi daily and the turbo spools up fairly quick, bout 4400rpm. I've had no problems lately.. and runs very well

btw, the Esprit is a kick ass car, ifyou tune it right, that thing will fly...!
