Does anyone else find themselves unable to avoid using the turn gear indicator that flashes red in the bottom right? I want to use more realistic braking points and track markers, but my peripheral vision subconciously forces me to base my braking points on the amount of time relative to the blinking.

I use trackside markers generally, but I do use the turn gear indicator where there aren't any useful markers - coming in to the bus stop at Daytona Road is the best example.

yep i agree with this one when it startes to blink i wait around 4 seconds to hammer the brakes

No you don't, and if you would you'd be in the sand...

Or perhaps you do, but if so your 4 seconds are the shortest 4 seconds in the universe.

yeah i do using the F430 pro mode S2 tires

Yes, you do use the shortest 4 seconds in the universe you mean,
unless you insist you are the slowest driver in the universe but i doubt that ;)

i think i might be lol :sly: for some reason i am scared to get out of second gear in the ferrari it scares me :)

I hate the reccomended gear indicator. It has no place in what is advertised as a sim. They should at least let you turn it off.

It doesn't usually get in the way, but when driving an unfamiliar car or track, I sometimes can't help but follow it.

its usually very hard to see braking markers on most tracks, but i agree this should be the best way (not the red indicator) to race with. I also struggle with seeing the brake lights of the cars in front when racing in cockpit view......

You could switch it off in GT4 by using the simple display so you will probably be able to do that in GT5 as well.

I use the indicator with a grain of salt. When I'm in a new car or on a new track, I use it to familiarize myself with the car and/or the track. After I'm familiar with both, I begin to memorize good speeds for most corners and use it as an approximation of where to brake.

While generally it works, sometimes it does have decent timing, others it makes you go way slower than you need to go, and sometimes it indicates a gear too high for the corner. Most of my experience has led me to believe that the gear indicated maybe the gear you should come out of the corner in (though this has gotten me into trouble from time to time:scared:).

It's possible to wait a fair amount on the main Fuji straight between when it flashes and when you actually have to brake. I know on some cars I can get a full 2/2.5 seconds in after the flashing.

Anyways, the brake indicators are generally way too early on turns, and usually a wrong gear, too. Sometimes they mess up and tell me to shift one gear higher when if I went into the turn in the current gear, I'd be dead. Usually I drive around once and base my braking points on observations of that lap.

Edit: anyway, they should just give us the option to turn the HUD off, like in other games.

are we now arguing about the supposed lack of counting skills by a GTP member or the tires said GTP member is using?

Clever, but nobody's arguing. We're sharing. The arguers are in other posts, talking about how dissatisfied they are with a game they played so much they're bored of.

ahh me i hate that indicator and unfortunately there is no way to turn it off.....in gt4 i-ve turned that off in gt5p there is no option

Like the driving line, the gear indicator can help to learn a track. In GT4 I used it a lot to learn tracks. Then when I tried to improve my laptimes I searched for better brake points (track markers).
Making it easier to learn tracks most definately adds to the fun of the game for some. I agree that the option to turn it off should be included in GT5 as well as an option to turn some other HUD elements of :)

I find it really weird, though that the indicator is not correct a lot of the time. I found that especially funny in New York in GT4.... Going by the indicator always meant hitting a few walls at high speed :scared:

I only ever use track-side markers, but on Daytona Road where at some corners there are none, I have been known to use a terminal speed indicator and even just guessing by how close the approaching wall is and it worked.:) Never used the gear indicator though.:)

bah, I learn the braking points that suits the car and my driving.

Why didn't you just quote me and write "+1".:sly: But yes, I know what's best for my car and my driving, not some gear indicator.

I agree with the original post. I don't want to use the blinking red light as a brake indicator, but it's hard not to when it's flashing there right in your face. I wish you could turn it off in GT5P
