turning ABS off with DFGT

Finally went from ABS 1 to 0 recently, and it is much more of a jump than I expected. With the DFGT there's no "feel" of when the brakes are biting. Are the more expensive pedal sets better for this? Or do you just get used to it with the dfgt pedals eventually?
 
I stiffened the brake pedal of my DFP with a bungee cord (DFP and DFGT have the same pedal set inherited from the Logitech Momo wheels). Also remember to change the brake balance if needed and calibrate your pedals (Pressing the pedals all the way to the bottom does this). Even after all these steps it takes some time to get used to it. Would be nice if the game had separate brake pressure and brake balance adjustment.
