Turning off the Ghost in Time Trial?

In GT4, I just hit "up" on the d-pad, to toggle the ghost on/off... that doesn't seem to work in TT. Ghosts annoy the hell out of me when I'm just doing hotlaps (which is most of the time).. is there a way to turn them off? Are they stuck on, or am I missing something?

press the right stick
 
Press the right stick... Did they say that in the manual? I didn't see it. Can you can configure a different button for the ghost on/off ??
