tv picture looks a LITTLE noisy

i got my ps2 connected, the svideo optin wont work unless the yellow video is in, is this correct? how can i fix that?

also my tv looks a LITTLE bit noisy, its definately viewable, but its not totally clear like a computer screen is, how can i fix this as well?
 
If it doesn't work until the yellow video phono plug is in, then it sounds like that is what it's using.

Have you switched your TV onto the S-video channel?
 
i just pressed the video/input switch on the remote. I may have to look at the menu options, ,but what about the haziness of the tv? what could that be from?
