How many of you enjoy watching your favorite TV shows on DVD? I sure do. There's just one thing I don't like...when companies release the first few seasons, then just stop! Or they have the first few seasons whole, then sell the rest of the seasons in "volumes" that cost the same as a regular season for less amount of material to watch.

An example of the former is the Drew Carey Show. I loved watching it on TV and would really like to get the seasons on DVD to watch, but only the first season is out and the show has been off the air for 4 years now!

An example of the latter would be Overhaulin'. I have the second season, have a hard time finding the first season, and of course the third season is split into 3 parts.

Another show is Monster Garage, which has the first 3 seasons out but has yet to release the 4th and 5th.

I'm thinking it's something to do with how popular a show is, which is why you see every season of all the shows on today, but barely any of past shows...or the fact that they're older shows and harder to put out on DVD for some reason.

Anyone else happen to share my discontent?

I'm still waiting for Blu-ray Gilligan's Island discs. The episodes that were unedited, compared to the episodes that aired after the mid 80's when TV executives decided old shows were too long and cut a few minutes from them to air more commercials.

Don't know about USA, but over here only the first three seasons of That '70s Show were released on DVD. I would surely like to have them all.

I think nearly every TV show I like is now on DVD. Of course, it took a while before some of my favorites like Miami Vice & Two And A Half Men were finally released.

I believe in the US most if not all of the seasons are on DVD of That 70's Show. I know we have the first 6.

There are various reasons for this. The first few season bound is usually because they were short summer-only or trial seasons. Or, in the case of Seinfeld, the show did not take off until season 3. So, Seasons 1&2 were bundled at a discount because they knew they couldn't sell them individually for the full price.

Is the second season one where they switched theme songs. Things like this can cause problems as you have to renegotiate royalties. In these instances it is not the distributors, but the artists that are holding things up. Or there is the ever fun lost master prints.

Did Overhaulin go from weekly to multiple times a week? Transformers, when they were out (discontinued because the company that owns the rights went bankrupt is a whole other issue for me), did this. Season 1 was all in one box, but then seasons 2 and three were in three volume sets, or as one expensive boxed set. The reason why is that season 1 was a Saturday morning cartoon. One episode a week - 24 episodes a season. When it became popular it became a Monday-Friday show. Five shows a week, 24 weeks in a season, 120 Episodes. It had to be split up.

I don't know if that is what Overhaulin' did, but many 80s and 90s cartoons are like this because they would do the Saturday morning test run and then go to a weekday afternoon time slot.

Another show is Monster Garage, which has the first 3 seasons out but has yet to release the 4th and 5th.
Like the Drew Carey Show, check for a change in talent (host), theme song, logo, anything that may need to be renegotiated.

Way too many possible reasons, but just remember that before DVD the idea of buying TV shows after they aired was ridiculous. So, after it had lived out its rerun potential (before Nick @ Nite and TVLand too) many times there was little reason to take good care of the prints and paperwork associated with them.

Two shows for me. One is Transformers: Generation 1. The rights keep getting bought by companies that go under. The original DVDs are out of print and going for hundreds on Ebay.

The other is Ed. I loved this show. It has yet to be put on DVD. Why? There is an issue with the licensing of the theme song, Next Year - by the Foo Fighters. In season 3 they dropped the theme song because it was too expensive to license. The fans revolted and they brought it back. Now with the DVDs Worldwide Pants Inc and NBC are still arguing over the licensing fees. Occasionally they will make a comment that it is still being looked into.

I think it was, which would make sense. Of course if that were the problem it seems like they could at least use the intros from the first season.

No I believe it always has been weekly.

I believe everything stayed the same throughout the series, though I wouldn't know for sure since I never really caught many of the newer ones on tv, I only got into the series when I saw the DVD's at the store.

Are any TV series on Blu-ray yet? I'm curious as to whether they're taking advantage of the space and putting as much as they can onto one disc. It would be cool to see some box sets featuring a show's entire catalogue, and not be as big as the Friends box. Even my dad's collection of just 3 Seinfeld volumes is taking up a nice chunk of shelf space.

The only series I own so far is Family Guy Vol. 1 (Seasons 1 & 2), but there are a handful of different shows I'm looking into. Top Gear really needs to release some DVDs though (do they in the UK?). I have to result to downloading them via iTunes onto DVD-RWs, and it sucks only being able to play them on the computer. Not to mention they've only got S11, and one episode of 12 up, which really bites.

Hmmm yeh there's a bunch of underrated shows...Will Smith shouldn't have a problem his whole show must be on DVD(s) and it still doesn't matter !! He's still gonna get reruns, FOREVER !!

Wayans Bros. was SO underrated, with John Witherspoon, great hysterical classic brotha comedy dude. Ya'll should try to find it, but where did the reruns go ?? Only Season 1 is out !! Who else happens to share my discontent ?? >.<
