I searched it and cant quite find my answer. Im looking for a good TV tuner that will provide decent quality. Im using a Toshiba laptop equipped with a Centrino processor and an Nvidia video card. Its a pretty powerful laptop, so i think it should be able to handle a tv tuner. Is it a better idea to get one of those PC card type tv tuners? Or the USB tv tuners. Remote control isn't necessary. I'd use it to watch tv occasionally, but mostly to upload stuff like GT4 replays and whatnot.
 
You will need a USB TV tuner, since laptops do not have PCI expansion slots.

I recommend Hauppauge or Leadtek. Stay away from Dazzle.

??? Laptops do have PCI slots. They all do pretty much, because not all laptops are WiFI equipped so they have atleast 2 slots for an ethernet card. :/

Hmm, I dont think i can find the Terratec TV tuner here in Canada. Didn't show up on ebay either :indiff: Do you find the PC card TV tuner to be much better quality than a USB tv tuner? Thanks for the responses so far 👍

Edit: ohhh, my bad :scared: . I got my computer lingo messed up. I meant to say Card Bus instead of PC Card. I always called it a PC card :crazy: Sorry.

Those slots will be PCMCIA slots... Not PCI....

I opted for the PC card version since my laptop only has USB1.1 ports, and streaming an Mpeg stream that way would probably result in framedropping or the need to turn down quality. Both equally unacceptable... - So I'm afraid I can't help on the USB part, as I've got no experience with those...

There's has to be an online shop somewhere that'll send a Terratec card to Canada...
 
What's wrong with Dazzle? Im looking a a few videos ripped with Dazzle and they look pretty good. The price seems right at about 50 bucks. Is there really much of a difference between Dazzle and Hauppauge? I've also been looking at generic brand TV tuners on ebay, how are those?

Edit: btw, do high perfromance graphics cards make a difference in quality with tv tuners?
