okies, this is my first write-up, so give mercy.

Few days earlier, after long search, I had finally found one of my dreamcars. It was mean-looking 2-seater coupe, rwd and had two little knots in the enginebay to keep it going when other cars ran out of performance. First, I want to give a small lecture about this cars predecessors, before revealing what it is..

This particular model's history had begun in the early eighties, when one well known japanese car maker had separated it from their everyday humdrum hatchback-lineup. And already back then, this car had 2.8l inline six in boxy-ish coupe body.

This car's later models remained much like the first one, only performance and drivetrain were altered to keep up with the rivalling models. Finally, the cars lineup got turbocharged model, which quickly gained reputation of sporty cruiser, especially with automatic 'box. but then, model with 2.5l twinturbocharged inline six was introduced, and after that, there was no end for the success.

This car's current and last model has six speed 'box and 3l twinturbo i6, that produces healthy 280 bhp and 450nm, which is a modest understatement, because when I dynoed this car, it had 345bhp and nearly 550 nm, and reached 300 mk/h, despite the claims of electronically governed 250km/h "limiter"..

And this car is..*dramatic drumroll* black Toyota Supra RZ '97 with 10 km on it's odometer!

like I said earlier, this car's official numbers are polite understatement. Even though most of us would be happy with this performance, I had always had a secret daredevil plan for my first twinturbocharged car. I was going to do the unthinkable and push this wolf in sheeps clothing past insane 300 mph barrier!

Now, that I had finally purchased proper car for this bold project, I started going thru different tuner shops who would had been willing to cooperate with me. i had heard that in US, there is a tuningstore that sells 1200 bhp kits for MKIV Supra, but I did not want to go THAT far.

"From here we might found a ride for ourselves. We must be cautious."

Finally, I called to TOM's, which has specialized in high performance Toyotas, like TRD. They told me that it is possible to get much torque from Supra's i6, without losing reliability, so i agreed with them that I'd drive my victim to their workshop so they could to their magic.

"We'll see on dockingbay 94."

After a week they gave me a call that I had been waiting anxiously. "mr. xxxxxx, your car is ready. we've done final adjustments and you can come and pick it up anytime you want." On that instant, I was on my feet and headed to their workshop.

"I have a bad feeling about this.."

Few moments later I was standing on their parking lot, but I couldn't see my supra anywhere. I started to fear for the worst when I heard a buzz, as the doors of the workshop started to open. It was dark inside, which was odd. Too dark..

And then, sudden deep rumble started echoing from the workshop, and headlights blinded me. I covered my eyes from the light as the rumble ascended to a deafening roar, and the lights leaped towards me, just to stop few centimeters away from me.

I blinked, shaking slightly. This beast of a car was my black Supra RZ! I saw how the mechanics laughed as they walked to me. They had decided to pull a prank on me, and they had done it well. I gathered the rest of my dignity and started walking around the car. The changes were mostly subtle. New exhausts, 3-piece rims with nice lowprofile tyres, coilovers.. and wing from a JGTC car.

I was questioning the mechanics about the changes, and finally, I asked if they had dynoed the car. One of them gave me the dynosheet with stern face. I glanced at it, looked up at the mechanic and looked more closely.

"it can do 0.5 past light speed. I've done it some special modifications myself."

The numbers were clear. Whopping 888bhp and awesome 1103 nm of torque! I knew that they could do wonders, but this had exceeded my wildest dreams. After receiving some advices for adjustments, I sat behind the wheel and departed to the local abandoned airport for testing.

At the beginning, I did notice that the car was much more steady to drive. Steering had become more responsive, suspension was delivering me knowledge from the roadsurface and multiple meters kept me well informed about the engine status. but ont thing that i was worried, was the boost gauge. I was driving slowly, about 40 km/h and the needle of that gauge had barely moved. I decided to do a little sprint before arriving to the airfield, just to find out what I should epect. I nailed the throttle when I was on third gear..

"Would it help if I'd go out and push?"

...and nothing happened! The sound of engine changed a bit and the speed started to rise, but boost gauge remained dead. I realized that they had already changed the gear ratios. for the moment i was temped to do a swift downshift, but then i decided to wait and see what would happen.

"Ready for light speed!"

Revs were rising from 2000 rpm to 3000 and finally, the boost gauge's needle came alive. It started a slow clib upwards as the revs crept towards 4000 rpm's.. and then, car simply jolted forwards like it would had been rear-ended by a semi!160 km/h was on tap in seconds despite massive wheelspin, since guys at Tom's had of course removed all limiters and TCS etc from my wish! I was shocked from that sudden show of brutal force. I had to slow down because all traffic around me was suddenly coming towards me rears first!

Soon I arrived at old airstrip. There were some local youngsters in their rice-o-rama Civics, but I resisted the temptation to give them some proper whooping. I drove to the quartermile strip, and did some practice runs. before going at it seriously.

"You really came here on that thing? You're braver than I thought."

first couple runs were piss poor, ranging from high 16's to low 14's. I saw those arrogant brats sneering at me, and on the next one, I gave it everything I got.

"Don't worry, she has few surprizes left."

Surprizingly, I felt how everything went right on. Shifts, throttle, squirts of nitrous.. And the results wiped the sneers off from those F&F-wannabe's faces. 10 seconds flat.

After that, I decided to keep a little pause and did some adjustments to the car at that small, well kept pitstop, which had been build there for occasions like that. I adjusted the suspension and gearing for optimum performance, and some of those young guys came there, looking curious. They asked me what I was up to, and when I said that I'd do a topspeed run soon, they looked at eachother and started talking, making guesses how fast my car would be. The estimates were ranging from 300 km/h to 340km/h, and when they asked my own estimate, I just grinned.

"Punch it!"

Finally I had finished fiddling with the adjustments and drove to the starting place. Ahead of me was many miles long runway, ideal for such test. Thus, I did an impressive burnout before I was ready to launch myself towards the measuring point that was far ahead. I slowly returned to the starting line and started pumping the throttle, keeping my eyes on the boost and revs. then, I lifted the clutch.

Wheeeeeeeeeeeellspin doesn't give you an image of what happened on first three gears. Finally, way past 200 km/h, rear tyres gained some traction and the acceleration came more steady. Speedometer was rising swiftly towards 320km/h, as my black beast started to eat the miles off with healthy appetite. Soon, the speedo ran out of space and i had to start eyeing on my digital speedo, what was rising swiftly past 350km/h.

On fifth gear, I breached into Bugatti Veyron's realm, and even past it. 400 km/h was broken with ease. At speed of 410 I punched sixth in and hit the nitrous button. car was shaking and growling hesitantly, but accelerated still. 430km/h.. 450.. 465..475.. could it be..? the speedo was slowly climbing. The last missing km/h were plain torture.. BUT IT DID IT! Speedo flshed 480.19 briefly, just before the measuring point and running out of nitrous! I eased off the throttle and slowed down carefully.

I was sweating when I drove back, but I also smiled like maniac. I drove to the pitstop, and when I got off the car, everyone ran to me laughing and whistling, patting to my back and clapping their hands. Mission accomplished!

👍 Nice little piece Leonidae... 👍

By the way, if you're Finnish, I've got to complement you on your English, it's better than mine!! :sly:

What's funny is that I've recently bought exactly the same car, with the intention of doing exactly the same thing.... :guilty: Have to think again now... :ouch:

Good luck bud!! 👍 :sly:

Well I can say he really is Finnish, we have good education here :) Leonidae, what is your next twin turbo, the header says Vol.1... Maybe the legendary GTO Twinturbo (alias 3000GT)?

maybe, or then 300ZX. as soon as I see either one of them with 10km/6,2 miles on them, I'll let you all know.

but, I just got rather alerting news, that 480.19 km/h does not equal as 300 mph.. :ouch: so I'm forced to return to testcourse and push it well over it to get thise missing few mph's.. but hey, I'm close already, there's not much things to do. just a little tweaks on the gearing.. :sly:

and thanks, fasteddie.. like greycap said, we have good, if not almost best education in the world. which means that we have to spend atleast.. ummm.. 15 years or so at school.

The person that originally wrote this who is named Toronado (Yes
My rough calculations tell me that you have to go 483.88 KM/H (300.00 MPH/.62=483.87096774193548387096774193548KM/H). So, not much faster in KM/H. Keep trying!
Just in case you missed it at the 300 MPH thread.

nope.. because downforce tends to cause more drag, thus slowing the car. i also used R1 tyres.
