My older brother and I were fighting for the internet after he changed the router's password. His router is the D-Link DIR-615 while mine is the Netgear WNDR3300. What happened that I was about to change the D-Link to mine, but I failed. This time, my mom and I discussing about my own cable modem, so I can use mine all along while my family use theirs. To make this topic a bit more specific, my family has Cox High-Speed Internet.

Um... what is your actual question? Is it can you have 2 modems in the same house?

Unless I am completely missing something, the only way to have a second modem is if you have a second cable line. If your family has that then yes, if not then no.

why would u fight over the internet, and why having 2 routers?? Get a good one that can match ur internet speed from the modem, and it splits the connection to how many computers u want... i dont see why u want to fight over the internet..

The only reason to add a second router, is that you are both at the same time, constantly downloading large files and its slowing the connection down. What you may want to investigate instead, is if Cox has a larger package. Often times the comapines will set you up with the basic model.

For instance, I have Verizon FiOS. The base package is 5mbps down, 5mbps up. I opted for the 20/5 instead. More money, but it makes the video watching much better. I could have gone up another step and got the 50/20 package but to 20/5 is plenty enough for me.

Have your mother check (or jump online to the COx website) to see if they offer a better package. It'll cost more, but its saner than adding a seperate line and additional router.

This is correct. There isn't any reason to fight over the internet. Just last night my son had a Lan party and we had 9 computers hooked up to my network. I didn't notice any problems with the network. Multiple hard and wireless connections.

Thanks for the solutions. The Cox Cable Guy would come later this afternoon and see what he can do.

looks like some of you never HAD a situation where you had to fight over a net connection. mutiple users on the same comp and with the same net connection, no matter what type, can cause aggrivation. especially when everybody's got their own settings and you can't change anything for safety's sake.
