Two Questions (Steer assist & Capture Cards)

Two quick questions for those avid drifters out there. What does "Steering Assist Type" actually do for the controller, if anything? I switched from simulation to professional last night, and I didn't really notice much of a difference. I thought the steering was a little... well the only way to explain it would be "dull". But it could just be me looking for a difference.

My second question is what do you use to capture your drifts? I use an ATI Wonder VE. Now this card is absolutely horrible. It captures in 320x240 max resolution, has horrible quality even completely uncompressed, and it doesn't support codecs like DivX. So I have to go through the process of taping, then re-encoding my videos to get them to a decent size, but even then the quality is really horrible. Anyone know of a good card that captures in 640x480? Any suggestions/comments on either of these would be very helpful, thank you :)

(P.S: Heres a sample a capture I took recently, so you can tell how bad the quality is: http://www.lsdrift.com/videos/RX7 - SS5.avi (11.4MB 1:51min))

320x240 is bad (me being a video prefessional) I dont see why maybe becasue you dont have a good program to cao at. A good capture card is a dazzle capture card.Qaulity is great.

The steering asist is mainly for use with the wheel. It doesn't make as big of a difference with the controler. About the capture card, Ryan right about the Dazzle external capture device, but if you want a really good internal capture card, I would go with a PCI tv card IMO.;)

I just ordered an ATI Radeon 9700 All-in-wonder Pro :D YAY!!! Cant wait for it to get here :) Oooo, plus, I ordered a 120gig hd to replace my 80gig (it just died), but then I called maxtor, and they said they were gonna replace it for free, even better! and to top it off I got an 80gig external drive as well. Thats 280 gigs of space o_0 all at 7200rpm with 8mb cache o_0 WOOOO ^-^. With that ATI AIW vid card, this pc is gonna rock (it currently has an Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti4600 128ddr), its already got an ABIT NF7-S2 mobo running a barton AMD XP2500+ cpu (oc'd to 2.3ghz) and 512mb (2x256) Dual Channel DDR3500 from GeIL (Golden Dragon). hehe, speed ^-^ Its got a Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer sound card, but I think I might sell it to get some money back seeing as how my mobo has 6.1 dolby digital surround on it, u just dont get all the fancy options u get with the audigy o_0

Nice drifts...SS5 II is one of my fave spots to drift. The quality wasn't all that bad, actually. What program are you using to edit the vid? That might be where your quality problem lies.

I use the pci tv card.....but wouldn't mind an external cap card. For editing, I'm still trying out programs, but I know that alot of people here use Windows Movie Maker.

Well im using the ATI Wonder VE software to initially get in on the PC. But thats where my problem lies. even 100% uncompressed video is horrible quality. The file I linked above is the same quality im getting completely uncompressed which is rediculous... so thats why I was looking for a new card

does anyone know the cheapest card to buy but still makes decent quality and i also need a editing program for windows 98 any suggestions?
