I likey.

Looks great, feels great (SIM on), tight racing, 10 real life circuit, 39 bikes, tough 72 challenges, 5 year expert championship mode with chance to switch teams, rain, and new 'stoppie' and 'burnout' mode.

The circuits look fantastic, especially when you can see several bends ahead. All of the circuits have been designed based on real course data and it shows. Sachsenring, a tight technical circuit can easily be a go-kart track. With many variations in altitude, this particular track is very exciting to race on.

There are bronze, silver, and gold times for the 72 challenges. And they are plenty tough. First 40 or so are pure learning challenges where you have to complete a certain section of a track (usually about 20 seconds). The remaining 30 or so are much harder, consisting of full lap(s) with conditions such as no collisions or off track for 2 consecutive laps while meeting a lap time requirement.

I have only completed my first 'beginner' championship of 5 races and I came in 6th overall. A higher position would have been possible if I did not run off so many times. Certainly more challenging than GT3 IMO (although not as much variety in race vehicles). I look forward to intermediate Championship and in particular the 5 year championship where you have the choice of switching to other teams when their requirements are met!

Also, completing the challenges will unlock the legend mode where you get to race against the motorcycle racing legends such as Michael Doohan.

So far, I have been enjoying MotoGP2 quite thoroughly with no complaints.

I played the demo and I didn't like it, I thought the controls were awful. I know the full game will be better than demo, but I still doubt I will buy it.

Two thumbs up here.

I have only played it a bit (damn GT3) :p , but I can say I think it does play better than the first one. Nothing revolutionary, just better. The gameplay is smoother and stuff. Overall, worth the price of admission.

I had no problem with the controls. I think the original only had analog button gas/brake but in MotoGP2, you can you the right analog stick for gas & brake (this means you cannot do burnout which requires both gas & brake to be depressed at the same time).

The control does take some time to get used to. The motorcycle turns by leaning into it, not turning the wheel alone. In addition, you can only apply gas when you have a full lean. Otherwise, your rear wheel will be sliding out. Once I had that figured out, it became much less frustrating (sometimes less fun).

Overall, I though the controls were very smooth and intuitive (the 2 bars at the bottom of the screen even shows the amount of gas/brake applied)!

I think NAMCO did a great job with this game. I would like to see MotoGP 3 next year as well, throw in the 250 and 125 class. Or maybe a World Superbike game would be nice. :)

Most definitely, do a career mode and work up to the 500's. How sweet would that be? And all the tracks, now your talkin' man. I don't know why they didn't get all the tracks in the 2nd game. They must be licensed to someone else though. :(
I would like to see a two player career mode also, that would be killer.

When HudsonJones gets his copy of MotoGP 2 we will have to have some comps. Like your best time on a certain challenge or do a time trial or something with all the nastys on, like weather and of course sim mode... you all up for it?

I'll put you on my buddy list and HJ can pm us or something and we can decide on a competition. Sound good? :D

Bear in mind a 3rd game would have the MotoGP class instead of the 500s, which should solve a lot of the variety problems.

Finished the beginner Championship mode (5 races) yesterday with a bit of challenge. I wiped out few times (both lowside & highside) but finished 1st, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 1st.

I must say, even in the beginner mode, the race to the finish line is still tight. The first 10+ riders can be caught up (because you always start last in easy mode) in 1st lap but catching the rest becomes more difficult (that's how it really should be and I like it that way) and keeping Biaggi and Rossi behind you is quite a task!!

I tried Arcade Catalunya 5 lap race under 'Normal' difficulty 3 times and finished 3 times in 2nd place. Damn that Biaggi. He once finished 0.09 seconds ahead of me, the bugger (mind you I did make few mistakes again).

Completed more challenges (1st 14 complete) and while some of them were very easy, others were quite difficult. Especially #7 I think it was (LeMans backstretch).

I am really looking forward to more challenges, the 5 year championship in particular. You have choice of 3 teams only, all three of them class D (the slowest). The criteria for continued contract at year end was to achieve 16th/17th place finish or better. If you do much better, I think the teams with faster bikes approach you for switching teams. Sounds good to me!

I cannot give you any confirmation on that although I very much like the idea.

BTW, does anyone who played the game unlocked the 'Legends' mode? The manual says you have to complete certain challenges but does not say which ones. I would love not to know about it but at the same time, I am curious. Can someone just drop a hint?

DOWN boy, DOWN!!...Go to your happy place. :D

Yes it will be yours, and you'll be glad that you picked it up. The more I play it the more I think they tweaked on the bike control. Not a huge amount, but just enough to make it better. The first MotoGP was a    1/2 and I give this one a     1/2.
I'm ready to do some challenges with ya'. The latter challenges (#'s like 60 to 68) are good ones because you can't go off course or you fail the challenge, that way it would be equal... :p

PM me or something when you get it and we can set up some races and stuff, maybe some other people would be interested in doing it. We can even do some time trial runs so people who have MotoGP 1 can do it too.
We'll work it out later.

Finally figured it out.

The tracks, IMO, are beautifully recreated and the most realistic tracks that I have seen (it terms of recreating). They really are how I have envisioned and also syncs with the TV replays.

I have compared the common tracks from DC's TDLM with MotoGP2 (Bugatti/LeMans, Suzuka, Catalunya, Donnington) and the tracks in MotoGP2 look much more alive (colourful) and has better sense of altitude changes. If there was a car driving game on this type of track would be a killer (I believe Codemaster is working on this) title.

The 1st Season (in Hard mode) was a learning curve and I only finished on 15th place (only because I had 3 '0' point races) after 10 races but with Class 'C' bike contract I received after the 1st season was much faster and I expect top 10 finish on 2nd season.

One gripe I have is the blistering fast qualifying laps of other riders. So far I have managed to finish last for the last, . . . . . 11 qualifying sessions! However, those same guys are NEVER that fast in the race! I can easily overtake about 5 of them in the opening laps. How is this possible? Either they have tires with super traction or a lot more power during qualifying.

Other than that, I am still very satisfied with MotoGP2. The race is a challenge (not like an easy win in GT), tracks are close replication of R/L tracks, Season mode is long and exciting, Legends mode is a nice touch, and the replay is very good (especially if the 'Sharpness' on the TV is reduced).

Overall, a solid 8/10 from me.

Finally managed to qualify better than 21st. I pulled a 16th position! I was very happy, indeed. It was far more satisfying than GT qualifying. Actually, I don't even bother qualifying because I know I can catch up in first few corners.

Another gripe if I may . . . . . the penalty for cutting the corner is a bit too sensitive. I am not 100% certain on this but I have been caught several times and it made me furious. On the exit of the turn, I was carrying too much speed and ran off course (over the rumble strip) and the game penalized me for 10 seconds! It was not a chicane where there was a second corner right after. The game will also penalize you even if you just skin the inside of the very slow corners.

Now, I was not blatantly cutting the corner to gain a position. I was also on 'Sim-On' mode where going off the track and taking hard turn would inevitably cause a fall. Therefore, I try my damnest to stay ON the track. I simply turned in a fraction of a second too early and happened to nip the corner.

But 10 seconds?

god i remember that penalty from the first game  ! i think that is a nasty little side of an almost perfect game, still wont stop me from getting No.2...

All I can say is, its got more tracks than MotoGP 1...

on MotoGP 1, I done 5 seasons (difficult mode) finished 11th in first year with the Proton KR and 3rd the next on the Anten 3 Yamaha...then I couldn't be bothered :D ...I'm a masive bike fan, but I was dissapointed in the lack of tracks in the first one, oh well at least 2nd ones got 5 more tracks and GP500 on the PC is always better (mainly cos of the add-ons) :p
