Two wheels good, four better
Web posted on 13/10/03 Rumour mills spit out 'motorbikes in GT4!' Predictably Polyphony deny, deny, deny...
We love it when the rumour-mills are flourishing, and one of the more interesting recent will-they-won't-they stories was regarding the possible inclusion of motorbikes in the next Gran Turismo title (that'd be GT4).

Without any doubt the top driving sim of all time, the Gran Turismo series is already no stranger to denials by developers SCEE of what is definitely not going to be included in their next sequel - GT3 was definitely not going to be featuring Formula 1 cars, yet somehow they made their way onto the completed game (presumably without the developers noticing). So the recent announcement that "there are categorically no motorbikes in GT4" can and ought to be taken with a pinch, nay, a bucket of salt.

The rumours stemmed from an American press trip to Japan which saw developers laying down some two-wheel rubber and SCEJ have been dropping hints of their own as to the inclusion of motorbikes (possibly added as a bonus level).

I don't really think there'll be any bikes in GT4.

They just don't fit in. Even as a bonus...

I would love to see the PD team do motorcycles.......just not in GT4 (or, if in GT4, in a very limited way). I think it would be much better if PD would go ahead and make a new, motorcycle series akin to GT (maybe call it Grand Prix: The real riding simulator) with the same attention to detail and the same emphasis on regular, everyday streetbikes as opposed to race bikes (which every current bike game does). That game would be awesome, plus we wouldn't have such a long wait between PD racing games (as there would be 2 series). Just an idea.

I'd still like to see a 1000+bhp skyline vs a busa from a rolling start oin the straight!

It would be hard to implement. To make it realistic at all the rider would have to fall off during a crash. And that isn't going to happen. For one, the rider could be thrown hundreds of feet from the bike if traveling at a high enough speed.

It simply won't happen.

Not necessarily. The Gran Turismo series is highly realistic, except in one area: Crash physics. Everyone knows that the cars in GT do not behave realistically when struck by another car or when hitting immovable objects at high speed. The same could be true of bikes. PD could decide to make the riding characteristics very realistic but the crash physics not. For example, the rider may stay on the bike as it crashed or the bike may just stop as the cars do. My only point is that you cannot guarantee that crash physics alone would preclude PD from featuring bikes in GT4. It is highly unlikely, but still possible, although, as I stated earlier, it would be much better if they just developed a stand alone motorcycle game).

bikes do sound pretty cool. just that cars shouldnt race with bikes but there should be a separate thing only for bikes or so...

If PD include bikes it should be a one race bonus for 100% or somthing, no mixing bikes and cars or having bike series and car series, it won't be GT anymore, anyway Sony is denying the existence of bikes in GT4 so I hope they're telling the truth.

Bikes...How bout no! You crazy dutch bastard. (just joking) I really dont think it would be apropriate to have Bikes in Gt4 then again it would also be an insult to put them in their own game too.
