What's the best way to conserve tyres in an online race?

I've done a number of hour-long online races between 10-16 people, and most of the time, my tyre wear is awful. I've tried changing the set-up, making the springs softer, stiffer, changing camber, everything. But they just keep going away from me :dunce:.

Is there a driving technique I should be practicing for this? Or is it simply luck of the draw?

Thanks.

Avoid any sliding or any tire indicator going red, ever. Break and accelerate in straight lines if possible. Be careful with the throttle, avoid wheelspin.
In a second step you can try wearing down front and rear tires as equal as possible. If you use a lot of rear tire, try to use the front tires harder by breaking harder and turning in with a little more speed. Equally worn tires will keep the handling the same in later laps, which allows for an easier drive, less sliding and therefor a better preservation of the more used tires.

Regarding setups, I believe more aerodynamic downforce always helps with tire wear and I found it easier to preserve tires with softer suspensions. I also try to avoid a too big difference in stiffness/hardness of front and rear suspension (especially rollbars) to get a more equal tire wear. Both camber and toe should increase tire wear too, but I didn't test that myself.

My experience is more from endurance A-Spec, but I think the principles should be mostly the same.
