Couldn't find a topic on it,apoligies if there is one.:)
Do tyres go off after the first lap and more after the second?
I definatley noticed recentley since changing to the tuned Z06, that grip doesn't stay the same after the first lap.
The first corner on suzuka for instance, i can feel the front gripping and bringing the front back when it starts to understeer.
Next lap it doesn't feel like it pullin the front back as much and theres also alot more tyre squeel.
Also the last corner after the hairpin, the car is much more skiddish at the back on the second lap.
It also doesn't matter what position im in.

Anyone else notice or am i dreaming :dopey:
I haven't seen anything about tyre wear in the game.

Could be in there, but also it could be the online boost that you are seeing? were you online when this happened?

AFAIK, the online boost will increase grip of cars lagging behind, if you were further back in the first lap, this may explain it.

I would not be surprised if tire wear is an undocumented feature, as I am sure it will be in GT5.

I haven't really noticed tire wear that much if any. I think all of these races are to short for it to even play a factor, however I have noticed after running off track that your tires get dirty and have less grip for a short bit.

I'm not sure if I'm imagining it but my second lap of suzuka often seems a bit easier than the first, even if I'm way out in front. Almost as if the tyres have heated up from a cold first lap.

I'd noticed that actually, I thought it was just me going mad. I think maybe on pro physics there are a few things like temperature and wear taken into account.

I also have noticed anything like that, specially on the first-to second laps. And also after being on the sand, does anybody here feel like a lose of grip or is just my imagination?

Yes, I did notice it actually. There were two of us in a pretty hard fought Daytona Oval race and on the last lap my grip was definately way down. I was thinking WTF, how can this be the online boost when there are just the two of us and we're both right here ?
I was driving a heavier car than normal which is maybe why I hadn't picked up on it before, and for most cars perhaps 5 laps is just too short to notice. Plus the issue being clouded by the boost, you're out in front and losing grip and you just think it's the boost.
If tyre wear is a current function of the game then a tyre wear indicator is definately a must in the next upgrade.

The "wear in" for tires has been discussed. It seems to take a few corners at Suzuka for your tires to warm up and within a full lap you are at our max grip. If you go off track it takes a few corners to get grip back again.

however, I've not seen talk here about tire wear beyond that. I've noticed that my first lap will be slipp, my second I stick like glue and my third I slip all over the place...this is R3s at Suzuka. I tried the same car, same setup, same race with R2s and had less drop off, even less so for R1s...though with the R1s I noticed too much loose of grip on the opening laps.

It seems with GT5p you can't just stick the stickiest tires on the car and run unlimited laps. Even in the 3 lap sprint races you get tire wear it seems. It will be interested when longer races come into play with refueling and tire changes...

I find the first lap has more and it tails off for the next.
The reason i noticed, was accelerating over the undulations in the track on suzuka.
First lap the car doesn't step out easy, but the next laps especially in the last corner onto the straight, any hard accelerating over the bumps and the car wants to dance.:)

I did some 20 lap races in arcade mode on Daytona and noticed that after about 2-3 laps my tires had more grip. I was able to take the turns much faster without squealing or slipping. The concept of warming up tires to get better grip is definitely an undocumented feature in the game. I'm glad others have noticed this.

So far, I don't think there is Tire wear. There is Tire heat, and Tire dirtiness. First lap is always slow because of cool tires, you need to warm them up a bit. As well if you ran off the track into send or grass, there is less grip for some time.

there definatly tire wear when i go to practice in time trail when im drifting its always more easy after the first or second lap to lose traction, or in a class that first race 5 times around daytona after the second or third lap the response from the tires and the grip seem to go, if wear and tear was in gt4 its gotta be in gt5p its just we don't have a device to tell us how torn up the tires are, wich is better i think

F2007 races are 7 laps. I've definitely noticed tire wear in the later laps. You have to be careful on the last two laps.

As posted in the "Boost" thread:

In fact, I suspect it's a combination of tire wear and draft that many are mistaking for an artificial change in their car's performance. Most of the comments even talk about a loss in grip.

Hmmm, I am not sure I have experienced tire wear at all. To me the first lap is just as fast as the last.

I've definetly felt this. Take the Viper out, drive a lap or two to get a good feel. Then do a few burnouts, slide a little, then go and drive the rest of the race...

This is on pro, all aids off, of course.

I'll have to try a more scientific test but it does appear that the tyres lose grip after an off. I say I need to do something more scientific as I suspect I may be trying too hard to make up for the off so over-cook it a bit.

I hope PD would give us more than three lap races online. + tire wear + pit stops + tyre changing.. But this would hardly happen in the Prologue.. :indiff:
