how do you know when your tyres run out of grip I know there's an indicator telling you if they are cold or warm but is there a way of knowing how bad your tyres actually are?

There isn't any indicator, other than you will just be slipping and sliding around if they are worn out. You will see your lap times drop significantly too, cause you just can't drive as fast anymore. If you are on PC there are external programs that can give you some telemetry info, which includes wear.
