I've noticed some of you are putting supersoft tyres on the front, and then normal on the back. to me this spoils the fun as its obviously going to make the backend step out. I run sports tyres on the front and back and its much more satisfying because you've gotta upset the balance of the car at the start of the corner then boot it and hold it sideways all the way round and you'll find its a lot easier to collect without it flying back in another direction

This concept of tire softness is pretty much vital for FF cars, somewhat recommended on 4WDs, and useless on FRs and RRs if you ever want to turn fast and shorten the lap time for about 10 seconds .

Ive been using sports tires on front/rear lately.

Yeah but i was referring to when drifting and using FR (which i didn't put) still say sports tyres is more fun. any old tramp could drift a whole lap with sims on, not many could with sports.

sims are def. not easier... i dunno wtf your talking about... its so much easier on cars w/ more traction...all u have to do is up the HP... ur problem is you can't drift w/ sims so your dissing them...
:odd:

And im also on about with the clk55 which is on as much power it will go to. its the perfect challange with sports. try it. bet u cant do it. loser

Drifted with clk55 with ss front and normal back... quite nice... want to check out the drifts? just click on "FR Action" in my sig.

phil, wow... I hope I get to go out tonight cause there's a damn good chance I might be getting that vid card after all very soon. When I do I'm gonna drift you CLK with LESS power than you said and I will do better then you. Then I will get in my cars with sims and makes some more ids, putting to you to even further shame.

Heh bickering of tires... personally i just use normal and a soft suspension.. for longer 10second+ or connecting drifts sims are handy, and for realism i find sports tires seem to handle the most like actual name brand tires.
One cannot argue tire type to be better or worse, its just style, and length of drift. (supersoft tires can be really fun to drift on as there is a lot of feinting)

Once again, Exhaust and Battle are right. Sims is not easier, it takes much more skill to drift well on sims then with sports and more HP IMHO. I use all kinds of different HP and tire combos, but I never mix tires. Oh, and you don't want to start **** with us, if you need proof, check out the vid in my sig. They are all stock cars on sims. I think you should try to drift a stock car on sims, then you can come talk to us. ;)

I think what was meant to be said about simulations is this.

-Initiating a drift is far easier with sims! Far less feinting is needed, just punch the gas or pull the e brake. You can also just oversteer and use the accelator from there. However, to properly link drifts and make it look good, very advaced throttle control is needed.

-Sport tires, and other high grip tires are more difficult to pull off long showy drifts with because your car regains traction much faster, however in a drift its very hard to spin out. Sport tires are also slightly more difficult to initiate a drift with unless you are dirt dropping or jumping.. With these high grip tires you must feint hard and maintain higher speeds in the corner to hold the drift..

I believe these are the differences between sports and sims.. neither is harder than the other really.. its just what your used to and what your style is.. For example a kansei type of person would prefer the sims.. but for rally feinting a tire with more grip is appropriate.. AND FINALLY your car makes a big difference in what tires you use.. If your in a freaking heavy car like the 3000gt maybe a sport tire is for you, as recovering from a sim drift would be kind of sketchy especially on tight courses like special stage. Anyway thats it.

Ity seems you have a few misconceptions. If you set up the car properlly, and have the right tire to HP value, all the tires will act the same. However, drifting stock cars on sims takes the most skill and dedication IMO.;)

Im not talking about customized cars and settings, because that varies.. I am talking about the stock performance of the car. Also using hp to drift.. thats no fun!!

That's funny cause I can take a stock Chaser with sims and make a damn good run at Cote d' Azur. You don't need sticky tires to make of for your lack of skill.

I didn't say you needed sticky tires to make *up for anything.
My point was, incase you missed it, that neither is very difficult and it just depends on what your trying to do. A sport tire can be pretty hard to drift with in a light car i.e. Trueno. Try drifting the 1st corner of apricot on soft or linking the tighter corners in grand valley with sports.. its not easy. Using sims on tighter corses can be difficult. But all of it can be mastered. For one to say that its hard to drift on sims.. its opinion. Personally I find sims to easier but only after I learned how to connect my drifts and recover, before that it wasnt that easy. Now making long drifts with high grip tires is more challenging.

its def. easier to drift w/ stickier tires because if u make a mistake u just let off the gas... drifting has nothing to do with intiating a slide... its keeping your balance... real life drifters set there car up for maximum grip so its easier to control and put the car where they want it...

Hang on guys.. all i've ever said is that i prefer sports tyres to sims to drift with. this is why ive used the clk tuned. i only tried sims the other day, ive had the game since it came out! ive not even tried driftin a stock car with sims. will do though.

I take it you mean stock as with no tuning atall, no suspension or anything? ill give it a go. A S13

i told u what cars...
Normal 86 and S13 1800cc...

and the car in GT3 is not an IS200 its and IS300... and don't call an Altezza an IS200....

I personally think that it is a little easier to initiate a drift using sims, but it is a lot harder to link drifts with sims, especially in tight corners.

Sports tires, in my opinion, are more usefull in high-speed drifts because when you come out of a drift your tires regain traction a lot easier and you can keep the speed up withought spinning the tires all the way up a straight.

I also think that drifting a stock car with sims is very satisfying coz it gives you a good feel for the car and you really do have to learn its weight and balance withought relying on the accelerator.
