Hello and welcome to GTP...
Anyways, as SR20DET pointed out, it all depends on your tires. However, regardless of your tires i would suggest that you try the corner entering at lower speeds than what you currently attempt, and slowly bulding up speed on each new run. I am sure everyone who even tries to drift has this problem, and i would assume that most people overcame this problem with lots of practice... 18 hours is not enough if you are on sims or slicks without asm or tcs. If your back end is coming loose mid corner when you apply a bit of gas, you probably are not applying just a bit of gas. I would think that you need to work on you idea of how the car reacts in different situations when you do certain things. If you feel as if a bit of gas will spin you out, do not give your rear tires that gas. Or atleast do not give it any sudden burst of throttle. As SR20 said the turn is a bit tricky, i remember tackling midfield from reverse when i was starting out. Other than what i have said i do not really know how to help you out. Just keep practicing.
Oh here are the ways i approach this corner.
Initiate the drift coming out of the little chicane right before the U, drift and switch back using the brakes mostly i believe so i point into the U early. Then i monitor the gas carefully with little countersteering (only what is needed and only prior to approaching the apex). This gets me pointed in the right direction to exit, so i gas it without upsetting the rear, and i usually end up at the outside edge.
Second and easier way. Approach the corner under heavy braking ( dependent on your speed), let off the brakes, and then utilize trail braking to initiate the drift a bit before you come into the corner. Follow above.
These may not be completely accurate as i am not infront of my ps2 and drifting or driving well isnt really a matter of thinking, its more a matter of doing what you need to do without needed to think about it. That is why practice is so important
