U turns

I've been practicing for about 18hrs now in an FC ~302 hp using Cudaman's setup. I can nail just about all the turns on midfield except for that sharp u-turn (I think it's the 3rd last turn). I've done it once or twice but can't drift with consistency on that turn. It seems I need to hit the turn at around 40-50mph, but that's all I can figure out. The car seem to reach a point where it's extremely sensitive to throttle input and just spins out even w/ a tiny bit of gas. So which method are most effective on uturns and what speed should i be coming in the turn on midfield? thanks a bunch

try to start counter-steering EARLY...

the floor on that particular turn isn't flat... it curves in (kind of like a bowl), so that would enhance oversteer... and thus spin outs.

with that in mind, i hope you can conquer that turn...

give me some feedback on this...

it depends on what tires you have.

i use normal tires, and i enter that turn at between 45 - 50mph.

Hello and welcome to GTP...

Anyways, as SR20DET pointed out, it all depends on your tires. However, regardless of your tires i would suggest that you try the corner entering at lower speeds than what you currently attempt, and slowly bulding up speed on each new run. I am sure everyone who even tries to drift has this problem, and i would assume that most people overcame this problem with lots of practice... 18 hours is not enough if you are on sims or slicks without asm or tcs. If your back end is coming loose mid corner when you apply a bit of gas, you probably are not applying just a bit of gas. I would think that you need to work on you idea of how the car reacts in different situations when you do certain things. If you feel as if a bit of gas will spin you out, do not give your rear tires that gas. Or atleast do not give it any sudden burst of throttle. As SR20 said the turn is a bit tricky, i remember tackling midfield from reverse when i was starting out. Other than what i have said i do not really know how to help you out. Just keep practicing.

Oh here are the ways i approach this corner.

Initiate the drift coming out of the little chicane right before the U, drift and switch back using the brakes mostly i believe so i point into the U early. Then i monitor the gas carefully with little countersteering (only what is needed and only prior to approaching the apex). This gets me pointed in the right direction to exit, so i gas it without upsetting the rear, and i usually end up at the outside edge.

Second and easier way. Approach the corner under heavy braking ( dependent on your speed), let off the brakes, and then utilize trail braking to initiate the drift a bit before you come into the corner. Follow above.

These may not be completely accurate as i am not infront of my ps2 and drifting or driving well isnt really a matter of thinking, its more a matter of doing what you need to do without needed to think about it. That is why practice is so important

I'm using sims, and the car seems extremely sensitive. Well it seems less sensitive then when I first started practicing with it. Anyways thanks for the suggestions, gonna try them out first thing tomorrow. I find it difficult to find out when the car will start gripping. I usually give it a bit of gas if I need to drift a bit more, but on this turn that little bit of gas (seriously I'm barely touching the throttle) just spins out the car. It's like I've reached a threshold of sorts, and any power input into the tires disturbs it. I've had this trouble before. Usually happens when my angle seems to be pretty high, well higher than I usually take the turns at.

Another question is does the arcade mode keep all the upgrades I made to the car if I load it from the garage? The car has 302hp but in arcade mode it only has 280 something hp. It feels about the same, so I don't know if just the power is reduced. Also where do you guys practice? I use run and setting mode in Home but there's only about 5 tracks on there. Where can I practice on more tracks? Besides the arcade mode that is. Thanks alot guys. Your help is very appreciated.

Arcade mode does keep all of the upgrades.

I think a good place to start practicing is Apricot (forgot which way) with the huge double apex U as the first turn. It gives a good variety of turns, and doesnt have the banks like MF. As SR mentioned the banked turn is bad for high angle drifts, and as i said stop countersteering and basically allow myself to come out of the turn just before the apex. If done right not many inputs ( only steering if anything) will be needed to keep your car drifting even without gas or countersteering. I exsit my corners as clean as possible i do not drift into the straights unless i am planning on linking turns.

You can open up tracks in arcade by winning them in Hard i believe... might be in any level are difficulty... i have forgotten. You can also practice by going to your garage scrolling down to the fourth down or so ( forgot the name) and there you can easily tweak your car.

Cool thanks for the tips. This is pretty frustrating though...I've been playing for many hrs a day for the past 3 days and I haven't improved that much. I can do just about every turn except sharp u-turns. gah! And holding long u turns seem to be problematic...oh well hopefully more practice will cure that problem.
