more on supercars (since my last thread on supercars went down well)

is there such a thing as a FR supercar?
most supercars seem to be MR or in the case of porsche RR. are there and FR supercars?
what would be the major difficulty in producing a FR supercar?

I dont consider the viper to be a supercar, despite its engine and looks. I'd place it in a "muscle car" category...

your thoughts?

MR is the best weight distributrion I think is the reason. What about the Panoz Esperante?

Panoz is a good call. Pretty close to a super car if you ask me. However, isn't the speed 12 fr?

That would be a super car with a front engine.

isnt the panoz a racecar only?

yeah good call with the speed 12 tho :)

The lister Storm is FR and it's pretty much a supercar. I mean have you seen the roadgoing version?

All race cars have to have a road version for some reason. Ive seen a picture some where of the panoz road car(I think)

Found the Esperante as a road car but only as diecast model, but it probably means that there is one irl.

you can buy a road version of the Lister Storm and the Panoz Esperante...i have a photo of them in a super car book so i guess they misy be super cars...

the Panoz looks nothing like the race version for some reason...(despite the above post)...perhaps its an older verion that i have.

Turbo, I think you're talking about the ordinary esperante, the esperante gtr road car has only the roofline in common with the ordinary esperante. kindof like the clk-gtr road car and the ordinary clk.

There is a lower spec Esperante which has different body work, the pic above is the Esperante GTR-1 roadcar which is the top spec one.

Ferrari 550 and 575 Maranello.

Shelby Cobra 427
Many AC Ace cars which i believe have had many different engines including the Esprit TT v8.
Jaguar E-Type ??
Shelby Mustang GT500 ... i personally hate to admit a mustang in this but damn things are quick
Many Ferrari's are in fact FR. Despite popular belief. The 550 maranello is one that comes to mind
Lingenfelter C5 Corvette TT . to say an 800hp 50 state legal vette that runs 0-60 in less than 2 seconds is not a supercar is nutts.
Opel/Vauxhaul Lotus Carlton Omega, Fastest PRODUCTION Family sedan in the world (supposedly can do 170mph).
There are Road going versions of the TVR Speed 12
Maserati Coupe
2002 Qvick Mini Cooper S3 although this is actually a race car...it is RWD.
Mercedes Benz e55 AMG
Hamann BMW m3
Pettit Racing Banzai RX-7 (3 rotor)
Those I feel you will aggree with, unless tuner cars aren't allowed.

Personal opinion says
Mazda RX-7 Spirit R
Ford Sierra RS Cosworth
Callaway Sledgehammer TT Corvette (only 1 exists)
Buick Grand National GNX
Nissan/Nismo skyline R33 400r (although TECHNICALLY AWD).

Are we forgetting the Vertigo?

I'll admit I know very little about it, other than in GT3 it compares very nicely with the Denso for Fastest FR, and there is a real life road legal counterpart.

Ving, Is this supposed to be only about GT3 cars? I thought of it as a "cars in general" topic..

Did you guys come up with a definition of what a supercar is? Seeing the Lotus Omega mentioned we will soon be talking about Civics.

I don't know... The Vauxhall/Opel Lotus Carlton/Omega (Jesus..) was pretty honking fast - much in the same way as the Holden HSV GTS. Probably NOT a supercar, admittedly (especially inside... Bleugh!), but a pretty damn fast GT car.

Yup. I think the Lotus Omega kicks ass. But supercar? - No.

I've never seen one in person. I prolly never will. I did watch a clip about it on top gear.... I think it sounds pretty bad ass.

I believe it is anything that does 0-60 in 5 seconds or less is considered supercar territory. I'm sure many of u will disagree with me on that but thats what i've heard. Personally I agree with it as long as there are other things helping it (like high top speed), or something like that.
Although with so many cars coming out that can hit 13's in the 1/4 and 0-60 in 5 or less i think supercar may need to be redefined.

Oh and I was assuming supercar ment "road legal" car. so obviously not an indy car, or Group B rally car.

The Esperante roadster/cvt or whatever sems to be the base for both a TransAm series racecar and the GTR1 road car and racecar:

TA racecar and original Esperante.

Furthermore the GTR1 race and roadcar (scalemodel in this pic..):

So, the base car is the black/darkgreen esperante in my previous post for all 3 other versions if I get it right.. Anyone knows something more about this?

I personally never count tuner cars, but just a couple of little points, on the Lingenfelter Vette, you do know it had slicks on when did that 0-60 time don't you? And the Sierrar Cosworth isn't a supercar and the Carlton is'nt the fastest, it used to be but there a Benz's and Holdens that are quicker among others, I wouldn't agree with most of thoes but thats my opinion, there are members who would agree with them.

Some of the Mines tunes skylines can easily be considered supercars in my book.

I never saw where they said they ran slicks, but I'm not doubting that. I do konw they left the traction control on.

And the Sierrar Cosworth isn't a supercar

which is why i put it in my opinion list. A super car to me personally is anthing that is either fast, or has potential to GLH (Go Like Hell), and is farily rare (like homologation Group A rally cars).

Thats my PERSONAL opinion of supercar.

it used to be but there a Benz's and Holdens that are quicker among others

Benz puts a limiter on their cars at 155 tho. I know very little about Holden's since we in the US don't get them here.

I'm officially moving the Lotus Carlton off the list, but i'm putting it on my personal opinion list, i'm sure that thing can easily be made to go a hell of a lot quicker.

wow I didn't know they had "over" cars in GT3

Oh please, its extremely easy to get the limiter taken off of the mercs.
