I have this game and find that I keep losing connection, especially near the end of matches, does this happen to anyone else?

Yup. Poor EA servers would be my guess and sadly I think it's a pretty accurate one.

Are there a lot of people that play this game online? I downloaded the demo and it's a lot of fun.

try going on the ea website mate,
im sure theres certain ports you have to open on your router
also are you sure its not just people quiting when there losing?
some people dont take a beating very well

'You need to enable port forwarding by routing all data on ports 3659 and 6000 to the IP address of your console. The way to do this will depend on which ISP you're using but most allow you to do it via a web page.'
