Heres a link for the real fight fans. http://media.xbox360.ign.com/media/8...73/vids_1.html There are several gameplay vids here and one 9+min vid with the two lead developers (THQ) that is really interesting. It is multiplatform, but looks like PS3 will get a port of the 360 version, hope it is the same quality, devs are doing much better these days. So far we know this:

Create a fighter mode
80+ real UFC fighters
100's of moves including ground, stand up, and grapple/thai clench


Not sure about online yet, but should be out this spring. The devs are working closely with the UFC and its fighters to make a real true MMA fighting game. In the gameplay footage you can see full guard, half guard, side control, and full mount. I've seen an arm bar attempt freed up by picking up and slamming the fighter to the ground. It looks very deep and is what any MMA fan has been wanting for years. Also you will be capable of a under 10sec knockout, very nice.

This game was announced allot earlier then now. I've been waiting for this game sense around christmas or earlier of last year. I'm buying it the day it comes out, Pumped for it. Some cool youtube video's too online. I want to see how smooth the game is, I hope its not just like "kick.... kick... punch.... ground..." you know?
 
With these graphics, the next fight night better look A-mazing. It would be cool if someone made a good MA sim, though. My kendo bud is a Godan in Goju Ryu (or something) Karate, but he hates cage-match MMA.

I could understand not liking MMA if you are used to using only one fighting discipline. Fighters adapt well though with training, like Josh Koschek. He was a great wrestler, that got him in the ring but his much improved stand up has found some knockouts be dished out to his opponents.

FN round 4 does look nice, but the fighters themselves are not as detailed as UFC, no body hair, no veins popped out, they kinda look like they have been dipped in Vaseline, very shiny like most overdone graphics in EA's lineup. The best thing about FN round 4 will be the face deformation when punched, that is definitely better than what I've seen in UFC 09.

Yeah I understand it too, I started in Aikido, Moved to Tang Soo Do, and am now in MMA... I enjoy it more because Its more "new school" i sappose, its something new, its fast, its exciting, it hurts like hell, its intense.
 
revival! Anyone have the demo besieds me? Im in love! still learning the game through tho, I got to knock out Chuck (I always play with RUA, abs. hate Chuck's "bully" style) Im developing my skills slowly!
 
I got it a few weeks ago, and I love it. It is easily the most realistic fighting game ever. It takes a while to get use to, but that's part of what makes it great. No button mashing involved at all, you really have to take your time, and wait for a good opportunity.
The AI on expert is actually pretty good too. I only win maybe 40% of the time on the hardest setting.

The game has really exceeded all of my expectations. I have never been so surprised at how good a game has turned out. It's really better then I ever thought they could make a UFC game.

May 19th can't come soon enough for me. Me and some of my friends have already had small money tournys with the demo. I ended up losing in the finals by a leg lock with chuck.
 
Played the demo and it left me disappointed. There was none of the visceral sense of the impacts of each punch or kick. I'm comparing it to fight night round 3, which I think is the benchmark for "feeling the punch". Also, the collision detection seemed off, like the punches in b-grade action films, it was almost as if they were "pulling" the punches right before impact. Finally the knockouts seemed very random. I did manage to knock out the other guy several times within ten seconds, but other times I'd do exactly the same thing and he'd seem to shrug it off.

I'll stick to fight night, I think. UFC isn't good enough to be an entertaining arcade fighter, and not quite realistic enough to be an enthralling sports game.

If you play the game enough, you will understand why you were getting knockouts when you were. Momentum seems to play a huge factor, as well as your health, and how much energy you have compared to the next guy. If you throw a high kick and miss, and I counter with a overhand right, then most of the time you will go down.

The beginner difficulty level doesn't do the game justice. It's best experienced on the expert setting. You also have to go through the tutorial several times to understand the complexity of this game. No other fighting game has ever had the depth of fighting that this one has.

It is in no way a game that you can just pick up and play. In fight night someone who has played the game a few times can compete in a match with a much better player.
In the UFC game there is no way other then a lucky flash knockout, that a beginner will beat someone who has spent hours, and hours playing the game.

The ground game is really where it's at too. I have had some great matches being shogun, and never thrown punch that was intended to do any harm. I can't believe they actually captured the ground and pound the way they did.

The UFC game played by 2 people who really know the game, really resembles a UFC fight.

If you like watching MMA you should really give the game another chance. Go through the tutorial, and turn up the difficulty. I really can't believe you don't like it. Everyone I have been around who watched it being played by people who knew how play it, thought it was amazing.

To each his own I guess. But really, if you like watching the UFC you should give it another chance, they really did a great job getting as many of the different moves and scenarios as they did. I haven't seen the same fight twice yet, and I've only been able to use 2 fighters.

I do see what you mean by the sense of impact though. Even when you do land a really good shot, it does seem kind of empty. It would be nice if nice shots landed had a little more impact on your fighters balance, or positioning.

bevo, you hit it on the button (tehehe) I enjoy this game just as much as yourself, Right now I only play with RUA but thats because I abs. hate Liddell's style. Im more of a technique guy, and I love the ground game, yet Liddell has yet to throw me to the ground, and has a amazing take down defence. It takes me till around round 2 before I can take him down, unless I get enough Head Kicks in to shake him up. I find if I come in sometimes blazing low kicks and head kicks with mixed punches, I have a great result as RUA's kicks are amazing. Im definatly in need of more practice though.

This game is going to be a great one, and I can tell already that Its going to be a game like a GT game, where you just play for EVER... I love the feeling the game gives you, and as it may not give you a "fight night" expirence, for MMA fans, its as real as it gets!

I went through the tutorial once, not enough time to let it sink in, then I turn up the difficulty one notch. Got my butt handed to me. Normally I have the mentality that if first you don't succeed, give up, but this demo is truly awesome. More practice for me:dopey:
 
I can occassionally beat Liddell using kicks and punches on expert difficulty, but not vice versa.

When playing as Liddell I find Rua always takes me down, beating me with a ground move.

TBH I wish it was more a pure kickboxing game, I don't like the ground game, hence why I'll buy Fight Night Round 4.
 
Here are some tips fot the ground game.
1. To block transitions- hold over in either direction left or right, on the right analog stick. It will prevent your opponent from going to a dominate position on you.

2. To reverse a transition- This requires perfect timing and is pretty hard to pull off. Flick the right analog as soon as your opponent tries to transition on you. This will make you get the top position on them.

3. turn on your stamina bar for a few matches- It will really help you understand how much energy is used to try and make transitions while on the ground. If you can block transitions while on bottom, you will really wear out your opponent, and then you can go for a submission.

4. Don't go to crazy- Pace yourself while on the ground. If you are constantly trying to transition to the mount, and are getting blocked, it will quickly drain your stamina. This makes it very easy to be submitted.

5. Be very deliberate when trying to do your transitions- Make sure to really move the controller in the correct way. Speed doesn't matter, it's the motions you make that count. It doesn't matter if you try a major transition 10 times, if you don't roll the controller perfect.

Those are just a few things I can think of right now that really helped me out. The blocking of the transitions is the most important. If you just simply hold right or left, your opponent is stuck in the full guard, and waisting energy by constantly trying to advance. Blocking transitions takes no energy though, so use it to your advantage.

If you use these techniques, and you don't get caught with a big punch, you will beat the computer on expert every time. Expert difficulty is actually really easy after you figure out the ground game a little. The only thing I can't do very often is win by submission. I usually end up in mount pounding them out.
 
I got this last night, and so far I like it a lot. The things I don't like is the training part in career mode. You don't do any kind of mini game and actually earn your points. You can however spar and earn some attribute points that way. And the menus when you're creating your character or changing something seem to go forever until you reach what you want.

So far my record is 9-1, with every win resulting in a knockout and the loss is a knockout by Rashad Evans. They've done a good job matching punch and kick styles to the fighters. And I really like the ground game, transitioning and everything so far has been fairly easy.

Fairly easy? What difficulty are you playing it on? I have mine on expert, and the computer does a really good job at blocking and reversing transitions. My record so far is 6-2, both losses were from flash knockouts, but I'm going to start over because I messed up on the training sessions with the different camps. I kept skipping the week they were on, on accident, and haven't learned any new moves yet.

I'm not sure, I don't remember selecting a difficulty when I started my career.
 
The control scheme is stupid hard. It was sent back after 2 days.

The game is beautiful and is the best THQ has ever done graphically. But the controls are not very inviting.

I completly agree with your graphic statement, but you have not spent enough time with the controls to truely master them to enjoy how easy they are once you spend some time with them ;)

I agree. The controls are great, but do take time to really get. It is not a pick up and play game. I always wondered how they would make an MMA game, and actually give you control over all of the different moves involved in fighting. I think THQ had done a very good job making you feel like you have control over the characters.

This league is run very well, and if you love the game you'll love this league. Top notch players in here, so beginners be prepared to get beat on pretty bad for awhile. My clubs OWG and are always accepting tryouts.
