UK chart sucks ALLOTMusic

[Race Idiot]

I like rock music and metal and im always tring to find new artists that I like. I usually do this via friends and the internet, I dont have MTV and I rarely listen to the radio. However If I go down to the HMV and look at the album charts its usually filled with complete rubbish (im not saying its all rubbish but allot of it is) there is some stuff that I respect but I wouldnt buy (elvis, coldplay etc) but then you have all this top 40 horrible pop music stuff, I mean who buys it all?

Another thing is recently I found out about a band called "our lady peace" I downloaded a few of their songs and I thought "this is great! I think ill buy the album". So when I went up to my local record shop I went and searched for thier album called gravity. I couldnt find it, when I asked at the counter for it they said they had never heard of them. I managed to find a copy when i popped up to central london, when I looked at the box it said "The Top Ten US album" on the sticker. So they get top 10 album over in the US and they are practically unheard of in the uk? This is the same for allot of the albums I buy, soil, godsmack and bad religion come to mind. Also these albums also seem to always be 30% more expensive than the top 40 stuff (is this because they know its hard to find and im going to pay for it anyway?)

I think allot of this is a bit biassed because it is viewed from my perspective, so try not to be offended if you like pop music.
Also could somebody post the current US top 40 album chart so I can compare?

They are pretty big over here though.

The UK charts have 3 albums I would consider buying.

Well, here are my comments on the UK chart...

1. Elvis Presley, Elv1s - 30 Number 1 Hits I'm not much of an Elvis fan, so don't have/don't want.

2. Rolling Stones, Forty Licks Quite like the idea of this one, if only to rip it to use in various compilations

3. Norah Jones, Come Away With Me A lot of TV advertising. Haven't really heard any of it/her, so can't really comment. What I do know I think would not be to my taste.

4. Pink, Missundaztood I have to admit to quite liking Pink, but I wouldn't buy the album. I think a whole album of Pink would be too much to bear!

5. Nelly, Nellyville Should never have been allowed to be released.

6. Coldplay, A Rush Of Blood To The Head I have this. It's fantastic.

7. Mark Knopfler, The Ragpicker's Dream I haven't heard any of his solo stuff. Hopefully there's not too many words, for this is a man who cannot sing!

8. Avril Lavigne, Let Go Quite like the current single, but wouldn't want an album of it.

9. Supergrass, Life On Other Planets I hate Supergrass.

10. Oasis, Heathen Chemistry Have been *ahem* evaluating this on MP3. Quite like it so far - may buy it.

11. Bon Jovi, Bounce Is he still going? When's he going to realise that he's never going to better "Livin on a Prayer"?

12. Atomic Kitten, Feels So Good ... when it ends. Rubbish!

13. Ms Dynamite, A Little Deeper I'm reserving judgement on this one, but when it arrives, the judgement is likely to be "rubbish"

14. David Gates, Songbook - A Lifetime Of Music I love it when people I've never heard of release "best of" albums!

15. Aqualung, Aqualung I like the single, and want to *ahem* evaluate the album, but have been having difficulty.

16. Eminem, The Eminem Show Eminem to me is like Rage Against The Machine: great in single songs, but a whole album is way too much, and I've had enough by about track 4.

17. Paul Weller, Illumination Not much of a fan of Paul Weller.

18. Red Hot Chili Peppers, By The Way Want this. Don't have it yet.

19. Eva Cassidy, Imagine I acquired this for *ahem* auditioning purposes. Haven't listened to it yet!

20. Liberty X, Thinking It Over Bad music, shouldn't be allowed. But one of the girls in the band is nice.

21. Coldplay, Parachutes Have this, it's fantastic.

22. Enrique Iglesias, Escape Very, very poor.

23. Sugababes, Angels With Dirty Faces Not as bad as I expected, but still pretty bad.

24. Suede, A New Morning Cool - I thought they'd split up. They're a bit samey after 6 tracks though. A singles band.

25. Peter Gabriel, Up Might evaluate this soon.

26. Madonna, Greatest Hits - Vol 2 Between us, the wife and I have pretty much got all her albums anyway, so not much point getting this.

27. Queen, Greatest Hits I, Ii & Iii Wifey has this.

28. Oxide & Neutrino, 2 Stepz Ahead Very, very poor. Hate "Garage".

38. Marc Bolan & T.rex, The Essential Collection Always hated Marc Bolan & T.rex, so 'essential' is perhaps the wrong word for me.

39. David Bowie, Heathen Quite interested in this. Would have to evaluate it first though.

40. Ash, Intergalactic Sonic 7s Don't like Ash, but I wouldn't say they're rubbish.

I'm surprised at how few of the top 40 I actually have. I've been buying a few CDs recently, and not compilations, so I'm obviously off-piste as far as the charts are concerned. Which, having done this review, is probably quite a good thing!

You are certainly more chart tollerant than I am
But a disagree with you about Nickelback, I hate "How you remind me" and I like all the other tracks on the album. Actually I was listening to this while trying to get the final gold on my B-Licence on GT3, took about the time it did to listen to the whole album for me to get that licence.

As you might have guessed from the screen name i have a passing intrest in rock music and i agree, the cost of even mainstream rock is almost prohibitive. Our solution is to download / copy until the CD gets to a sensible price, then buy it.

I just can't stand it when these so called artist's destroy really good tracks and try to make them there own ..

Just goes to show that the originality of the mainstream market is drying up

I like my music in the pure form Underground..D&B. that sort of thing
