I wish this had occured to me sooner. I'm a bear of very little brain, so there's no way I'm going to be able to wrap my head around a Dutcho, Devil's Own, or Pick Your Own type event. Therefore I'm asking you, the good attendees of UKGTP13, to vote for the 6 events you most enjoyed / think sound good, from both UK and SFGTPs; we probably won't have time for 6, but I'd rather too many than too few. Some of the longer handicaps can be trimmed to fit. I've already got a track in mind for the Clio Endurance, and you'll all hate me for it.

Some have numbers in brackets - that's the UKGTP I've copied the cars from. The poll is open until Saturday, but as I won't have Internet access after Friday evening, that was a bit stupid :dunce:

And obviously, please only vote if you're actually coming - the poll is public for a reason.

Ok, as a UKGTP virgin I'm not really in a position to vote. But while I'm clogging up the thread, do I take it that these races work on a system that runs parallel to A-Spec points? I.e, I could pick a Ford GT (and beat every Focus to the finish line) but essentially get hammered when it comes to dishing out points?

Sorry, I forgot to explain... so I'll let Famine do it for me.

A fixture of UKGTPs for some time now, the idea behind the handicap is to have all drivers in a single, fast start vehicle. Successful drivers advance to slower vehicles, making their races progressively harder. The series winner is the driver who manages to win a race in the slowest available vehicle - often translating into a race where all drivers are in the slowest available vehicle and one of them avoids crashing/being crashed into.

Handicap example (scroll down a bit)

A classic format - 6 cars, 6 races for each driver and each car may only be used once by each driver. Drivers are allowed to choose when they use each car - do they start off in the best and get points on the board, or start off in the worst to get them out of the way, or do they simply try to match the car to the track as best they can?

Pick'n'Mix example

Feel free to vote for the events you like the sound of :)

I've voted for 6 (yes, SIX!)

We have to do Group B's, anyone who doesn't vote for them will be subjected to taunting all weekend.

Suggested by daan, so he can stick it in the poll with his supermod powers. In the meantime, vote for 5 and post that you want this one if you so desire. Fixed.

Even though I've voted for the usual favourites, perhaps we should use a load of Smallhorses/US ones that none of us have done before.

*places 100 votes for Algore*

 I've picked that one too.

Me being me, I always enjoy racing the slower stuff much more, so along with Al Gore and my beloved Insight I've picked the Super Saloon Handicap, the SUV handicap (I remember much cursing with this one from the last one... excellent), the Kei car pick'n'mix with my other beloved Mazda AZ-1, Copen, Cube etc (incidentally, the Cube isn't a Kei - how about the Suzuki Lapin?) the UK FF Coupe one, and the MR challenge.

In all honesty though I'd be happy with most of the above.

What Mazda were you considering for the Al Gore? How about the NA MX-5, I can get 40mpg from mine :D

Voted - had trouble getting down to just 6 from my initial 9 choices!

The Algore challenge was the first that I dropped as it was already in second place, so is practically guaranteed. IMHO its an essential part of any event, being the only one on economy tyres - everything else usually being sports or race tyres. PD went to the trouble of including these cheap cars and tyres, so we should take every advantage to use them for a bit of variety.

Checking my spreadsheet, the series was designed to use the Mazda Demio '99 as its performance is very close to all the others in the series except the Prius '03 who's advantage was enhanced when the actual races were shortened from my ~20 mile testing session. Unfortunately the Prius '02 is about 5 seconds per lap too slow to replace the '03.

Now I just need to get my hands on a new GT4 disk so that I can test the last 100 or so cars in the game.

What Mazda were you considering for the Al Gore?

I was copying from the results thread of previous events, and it just said Mazda. I couldn't remember which Mazda, but I assumed Car-less would know.

Checking my spreadsheet, the series was designed to use the Mazda Demio '99

Thank you 👍

I recall putting in the Lupo 1.4 for the most recent one in place of the Demio. My list dun sez:

Mitsubishi I Concept '03
Toyota Prius G Touring Selection '03
Nissan Micra 12c '03
Honda Jazz 1.4 dSi '01
Citroen C3 '02
Mazda Demio GL-X '99
Honda Insight Hybrid '99
Volkswagen Lupo 1.4 '02

I believe I chucked the Jazz in at the expense of... errr... the Micra, because it's the only other ecocar with a D-gear, meaning you can get the Prius, i and Jazz all running single speeds and generating the world's least pleasant beat frequency.

I can safely say that the LM Pick'n'Mix won't work on PAL version due to the massive HP difference with the 350Z LM Race Car between NTSC & PAL versions. It's quite well matched to the others in NTSC, but would rip away from the pack considerably in PAL-land.

Not that I'll be there, so I'll abstain from putting votes in the poll, but for fun's sake I'd pick:

90s 4WD Rally Car Pick'n'Mix
Coupe Handicap (5)
FF Race Car Handicap
Super Coupe Pick'n'Mix
Gentleman's Agreement Pick'n'Mix
FF Coupe Pick'n'Mix - SF edition

I'm a little biased towards my own P'n'Ms here, but I thoroughly tested my 6 car groups mostly to within a second of one another round the 3 test courses in A-spec mode to give groups of closely matched cars for good racing, as I'd found that some of the groups we used at UK events were a little mismatched in some cases, the Hot Hatches particularly.

Not wanting to have 2 cars from the same manufacturer in the series, I conciously left out the Jazz in favour of the Insight despite its eco credentials and appropriate performance. The Lupo also performs appropriately as do the following;

Mini One '02
Mercedes-Benz A160 Avantgarde '98
Mitsubishi Colt 1.5 Sport X-Version ''02
Toyota Yaris U Euro Sport Edition '00
Toyota Yaris RS 1.5 '00
Toyota Voltz S '02

...though these I'd consider more sporty than ecocentric.

I can safely say that the LM Pick'n'Mix won't work on PAL version due to the massive HP difference with the 350Z LM Race Car between NTSC & PAL versions. It's quite well matched to the others in NTSC, but would rip away from the pack considerably in PAL-land.

Agreed. It appears to be about 2.5 seconds per lap too fast, and the Pagani Zonda LM is not much better at about 2 seconds per lap.
The Honda S2000 LM is 2 seconds too slow, and the NSX-R LM is about 6 seconds too slow! The five other cars are all within a second or so of each other.

It's a good banker car. The fun comes when 5 people pick it for the same race, meaning only one person gets maximum points for it and in other races, other cars can pick up maxmium points.

Edit: Though I don't recognise the line-up... I suspect this is a Roo's-own :D

The oddity with hot hatches - and this wasn't appreciated until the event itself - was that the Focus RS was the quickest car with a controller, but utterly undriveable with a wheel...

I guess theres no surprise that I voted for the Kei class? Although I don't actually intend on doing any racing as per! It would still be great to watch and I can then pretend I'm doing the race on the way home!!!!
