Ok after reading the thread started by Amar in the Ferrari Forum. I toke it a litle longer and thought about my dream racing game for PS3. Here is what I think it should have.

- In general.

A sim race style game. At least on par with the handling model of GT5 P / Ferrari challenge.

It should support the most common wheel & pedal combinations. G25 Clutch and the like.

The menu system should be easy to navigate, with all common options, like selectable dificulty, adjustment of Force feedback. Sound, Camera angels and so on.

The user should be able to customise controls. Like in GT5 P. and not forced to chose between a few standard ones made by the developer.

Graphics on par or better than GT5 P cars. The tracks has to be done better, they are way to sterile looking in GT5 P. Tracks in Ferrari challenge are much better done. So tracks like Ferrari challenge with GT 5 P. graphics.

Options for wich view user drive’s in. With seat adjustment when using in car view. Like in GTR2.

A good number of different cars, and tracks. With more coming as DLC.

Good AI cars. The best we have so far is Ferrari challenge wich is pretty good for the most part. Just to bad at some corners they are way to slow.

Weather. Ferrari Challenge has done it pretty good in the rain. F1 CE looks really good in the sun. There could be options for turn on random, so after the race started it would sometimes start to rain halfway into the race and so, would add another dimension to pitstops.

Pit stops. Tire and fuel usage. The best we have so far is the system used in F1. Championship edition.

Lots of tuning options, and upgradable parts. the PP system used in GT5 P is good. just need more options.

Training of specific sectors of a track. If you just want to train 1 specific corner. Like in GTR 2 you can train on a specific sector of a track with out having to drive the whole track.

A livery system where cars can be painted and so on. Like in Forza 2.

Replays.
User should be able to save, pause rewind, recycle loops, chose camera view. Upload to Youtube ( Since Firmware V2.40 this was and intigrated part of the PS3 Firmware, but no games other than 1 weird game on the japan store use this feature).

A money system, where people earn money that can be spend upgrading and, buying new cars, and also sell them to other gamers online. Buy better pitcrews that work faster in the pit.

Damage. If you crash or blow your engine you should have to spend ingame money to repair it .

Lots of single player content with licences to overcome, tracks, and cars to unlock, trophies to gain and the like.

Personally id like a game where it was hard to earn money, if its to easy it becomes rather pointless very fast. It should be so even if one played the game a lot the person shouldn’t be able to buy all the cars and tuner parts the game has to offer before a long time.

The Developer should setup a homepage and forum, where gamers can discuss the game, and arrange tournaments and the like.
Developer could run pools about wich cars, and tracks the users would be most interested in as DLC.
Developer could be in contact with user base for fast feeback, what are current problems with the game are there any glitches, make patches to prevent posibel way to cheat online and so on.

- Online

Lag free, with stable servers.
Options for invite friends to private races.
Options for setup a league season where participants must drive a varity of tracks and cars.
Options for use of voice chat. And ofcourse and option to mute people also.
A penalty system that is actually working.

The host should be able to set some settings before the race
Qualifying or not before the race takes place.
Weather conditions.
Standing or rolling start.
Pitstops on / off
Damage on / off.
Number of laps.
Wich aids are allowed for all participants in the race. Everyone should race on even grounds so a sytem like Ferrari challenge where you can be in the same race with people using TC. SC and so on and some people don’t use it, that is crap. Much better done in GT5 P with the PP system, and profesional races where people are forced to drive with out aids.

Time trials. Leader boards, with filters for tracks, cars aids and so on. The system in GT5 P is pretty good. But there should be more options for using PP tuned cars. So every car setup was not the same, but still the overall power of the cars are equal.

Reset leaderboards once in a while maybe every 3 month, and give the Top 10 a special free car. Not necessarily a faster car, but one with some sort of special graphic so there are som rare cars in the game everyone would want to get them. Also give for example 3 other random people who had anytime in the time trial a car, just so its not always the same people who get the rare cars always. That way a lot of people would be interested to do the Timetrials.

Option to download replays from leaderboards. A vote system where users could vote times as invalid due to wallsurfing, or other exploits. Developer could then investigate these times if they had a high number of votes, and delete them, and fix the game so the exploits was not posibel.

Stats tracking. Like in Fifa 08, Call of duty 4, and so on. It should be posibel to click other gamers, and see how many races they won, their fastest laps, wich car they used most, what is their favorite track, how many times they diconnected, and so on.
Auction of user tuned and painted cars. People could sell / buy cars with in game money made by other users, online, or via HOME when it is released. Imagine setting up your own custom car shop in HOME. How cool would that be :)

So what is everyone’s thought ?
Do you think it would be even posibel to make a game like this on the PS3 ?
Personally I think it would be very posibel and it could become equally popular with some of the more popular online games from other genres, like COD, BF, FIFA, and so on if done right.

Well, only thing I'd add would be a co-op mode where 2 people trade off being driver and crew chief, if only for the hilarious words that follow after the driver goes into the wall or the crew chief decides that you don't need gas.

From,
Chris.

Great idea, maybe Ardius could program this. :dopey:

The only thing I would add would be a Car Creator and track Creator. I know you said about selling your cars online, but it would be great if you could start from scratch and make your own engine for your own type of car. And then add the bodykit and tuning options afterwards. And for the Track Creator, you can choose from a massive variety of items and objects, along with the obvious parts like roads and walls. Let's just hope this would fit on a PlayStation 3 hard drive if it was made.

Why do you think that?
..oh wait, lol.

If I get hired by Studio Liverpool or Codemasters, we'll see what can be done, lol.

Im actually quite interested in making a race team management game and maybe combining it with a race sim. Im just a lowly programmer though all I can do at the moment is suggest ideas and try and get people together on projects, perhaps we will start our own games developer, who knows. I think I need to finish my uni course though and get some experience in the industry before doing anything huge like this.

In my opinion to get a game such as you're suggesting made cheaply (well, as cheap as possible) and high quality, it would undoubtedly have to be made for the PC, it has much better community support (as its easier for the PC community to contribute than it is for console) and much larger base of hardcore fans. It would also be a lot easier and cheaper to distribute (it could be offered as a download, so no need for pressing of discs or printing of manuals) as well.

If you want it on PS3, you'll need a major developer or publisher to make it, at least if you want it to be of high quality.

Sadly, I think you'll never see a game with all the things you have asked for. It would take longer to make than Gran Turismo, and the problem with that is certain areas that have been built into the game grow obsolete and they have to be updated, adding more time, and well you see it becomes a spiral into failure. The problem with making games that take so long to build is that you dont know if they will be successful or not and are therefore a huge risk to undertake. It could all be a huge waste of time in the end and so I dont see many developers ever taking sims (at least on console platforms) any further than Gran Turismo and others have gone.

I've always wanted to be a games developer and I'm sortof working towards that goal. Creating ideas is what I'm most intrested in but I do have quite a few programming books. Like Ardius said the cost of this would be massive. how about suggesting this idea to Codemasters or ea. you can always email them with ideas.

I would probably not work on that. I already got my ideas going while working from the creators of Shutokou Battle and Kaido Battle. The gameplay is mixed with Shutokou Battle, Gran Turismo 5 and Burnout Paradise, but I won't reveal the whole thing to you guys until I'm in Japan and start working.
