isnt it funny that every time a new processor type is released, that the previous model is obsolete? its silly really. i decided to challenge this, and as a pet project, i have rebuilt what i think is probably the ultimate socket 7 pc. as a rule i decided to only use (if possible the technology that was available at the time the cpu was available.

heres the stats:

amd 475mhz super socket 7 chip
asus p5a mother board
512mb sdram (768mb possible)
64mb voodoo 5500
soundblaster 128 pci
30gb hard drive
44x cdrom drive
52x cd-rewriter
120mb optical floppy drive

i'd say that apart from the 30gb hard drive, i have faithfully created a 'top spec' super socet 7 pc. i do have a 550mhz super socket 7 processor, but i am struggling to run it without it overheating. i still have 4 pci, and 2 isa slots to fill with retro-style technology.

are there any retro overclockers in here? do you have any insights that might help me improve this pc? im thinking that i will create the ultimate slot 1 processor for my next project what do yo think?

Get a cheap peltier system and make sure to protect your board from condensation. Then see how far she'll overclock.

To be quite honest though, it isn't worth it.
