you guys are gonna think I'm totally nuts for this one.

there's still a preponerance of thos nearly immortal AMC Eagle wagons floating around, even up here. I rarely even see them with rust on them, (there's even an old guy in town still driving around a mid 70's Concord!), so I had an Idea

take an Eagle wagon, do a full shave and drop, and drop an appropriate motor in it, and have the world's oddest rod. thing is, what motor could you stuff under the hood to get the old boat to do something like 13's in the quarter and be a backup daily driver if need be.

oh, and I'd go for the nearest shade of Orange

Having experience with an AMC Hornet wagon, I have to say I'm amazed that there are non-rusty Eagles floating around. My wife's '74 Hornet had pretty well biodegraded by about 1984.

I've seen 'em lifted and mudded, but not set for street runs. I'd say you could probably fit the old AMC 360 V-8 in there... and if you didn't blow the transfer case wide open, you'd get some serious launches, too.

You have been out in the sun a LITTLE too long
Why go with something that odd?? when there are plenty of late 70's and 80's cars that are more common and with a little work could do unreal things with them

But that's his point - he wants something uncommon.

That's not so crazy. I saw a Smart car mud racer somewhere (can't find it again).
There's that widebody Yugo with a Mopar 2.2 turbo in the front and a 500cid Caddilac V8 in the back.
My personal insane fantasy project is to put a Mazda 26B in a Bricklin SV-1.

chuckle*
the reason I wanna bother with an AMC wagon is cause they're still around.

easy...there aren't any left. I've seen ONE Torino Elite. around here was the following, all towed off to the junkyard
1. a 60's Plymouth Sattelite, needed an engine dropped in. Junked
2. a late 60's to early 70's Cuda. stripped to the metal. Junked
3. 76 Ford LTD II, possibly runnable, junked
4. 70's Lebaron. new paint and all. Junked
5 67 Caddy coupe de Vile ragtop and a Tan Sedan DeVille. worth twenty grand, sold for two grand together as parts
6. 73 Dart Swinger. little old lady car, repainted and well taken care of. sold for two grand
7. 76 Ford Maverick. allready hot rodded. Junked
other things to go in an auction include the remants of a 17 T, a 27 American LeFrance pumper, a 36 Dodge Pickup, various small and large motors, the remains of an 88 f250 SD to be junked, and a restored antique 30 dodge senior six...most of wich will be junked.

the same thing happened to my first car, an 85 Marquis Brougham (small version) fully stuffed, cubed because they couldn't get it started.

in a nutshell. 70's and 80's cars in Pennsylvania are scrapped, and their remnants are left to rot. the remnants of most late 80's are cutrrently being used as rolling boom boxes. all subwoofers, and no seats. in other words: there's nothing left to take.

and, FYI, I use this Username to keep thing simple. check my profile and you'll see my age on it...over 30.

I personally love the idea. I'm all for unusual swaps and mods. I always wanted to make an RWD V8 Geo Metro drag car.

You should check out this project : The V8 Reliant Kitten

Awesome build story and around 120 pictures.. Most of the work was done in a small garage with basic tools.. Lathe, welder and odd bits and pieces...

And yes - Odd swap and projects rule !...

My Dad's '85 Chevy Scottsdale had grass growing in the bed not too long ago. the Bed of it has pretty much returned to the earth from whence it came, The only color you see is rust brown. Thankfully, It isn't his daily Driver. I kinda like the Eagle Hotrod Idea. look up the Rufus Ranch, and there's a Datsun Honey Bee on Dodge M-37 Running gear. Honest. it has three snowplows.

That was really cool untill the end where he said it has aproximatly 100bhp.
I know it's just hauling around fiberglass and a roll cage, but that's a pretty sad output for such a big project.

Have you considered, say a Pacer?

I saw one today! :dopey: It was an absolutely Hideous Brown. :yuck: It'd take a few Sawzall blades to get a V8 into a pacer though.

No it wouldn't. '78 and '79 Pacers were available with the 304 V8 from the factory.

As for the Eagle 'rod, the obvious answer is a 401 swap.

Hornets, which served as the basis for the Eagle, were available with the 360 and 304. The 401 shares the same block, so I'd assume one would fit in an Eagle.

sweeeeeeeeet motor.
where would you find something like that, though? they destroy a lot of things over here, or let it rot. what burns me the most is I know where the remains of a Crosley Hot-Shot is sitting (bonus points if your under 50 and ever heard of one).

lessie...I think under the hood of an Eagle is a 2 something. I can't remember the cubes, but my brain says that you shouldn't be able to stuff a 400 in there.

Yeah, but it's a straight six, and there's acres of room on either side. Remember, this is a '70s car we're discussing - I can eat lunch under the hood of my old Poncho. 'Form Factor' didn't mean anything back then.

You could hide an elephant under the hood my Biscayne(if the motor aws out), with the Stovebolt still in you might get away with a couple of cougars instead. :dopey:
