I'm writing this from my old 2004 relic. The problem is, that while GTP opened normally in the beginning with my new comp, now it doesn't open this site at all, but gets "connection timeout" instead. It started slowly, but got worse over time, and I've checked cookies and settings, and it should work just like every other site.. Which are working flawlessly and without any problems. Has there been any changes that affect Win7/Firefox users recently? A tech savvy friend of mine said that the problem could be at GTP instead of my computer. Any ideas?

Thats strange, I have xp and I am using firefox at the moment and have never had a problem. Have you tried using chrome or IE to see if its a problem with firefox yet? If not try the site with one of them and see the outcome. I have had problems with FF while using facebook so I switched to chrome for using facebook and don't have any issues, but if I try to use firefox I have the issues again, even after the update.

I've XP & I'm using Firefox aswell. That never happened to me. I have never experienced problems with Firefox when viewing Facebook, though.

Its not really facebook, its only when I'm using farmville within facebook I have java script problems, I don't have them at all with chrome though so I just use it for facebook in general now.

Perhaps it's because your IP on your main computer is banned? My site acts the same way with people I ban, they can't see the entire site (Since I integrated the forums with the wordpress main pages)

From,
Chris.

Isn't there another Leonidae in Finland?

This is the same Leonidae. Hopefully with improved proofreading skills.

Leonidae, I've checked your account and don't see anything odd. It also shares IP with at least one address from your previous account where you successfully posted. The IP is not banned, either. Not sure what's up but I don't believe it's on our end.

Hm.. It could be firefox/windows 7 issue then. I already sent mail to their helpdesk, and as far as I can tell, everything is in order at my end since only GTP causes problems on my new computer. And thanks for the encouragement, I will do my best to keep my capital letters and such in order. ;)

Did you try using chrome of IE yet? That would be my first thing to try actually, if you have any troubles on the net try a different browser and see the outcome.

There's no problems with any other site, just with GTP.. Could it be that ad-blockers and such may be preventing the access? And no, I'm not too eager to try other browsers, since it has been enough big pain to recreate my bookmark list and passwords to various forums and sites I go to.

Try the other browsers. I'm fairly sure you can import your Firefox bookmarks to IE and vice versa.

Let me ask you a few more questions which might help us figure out the problem:

  • When, exactly, did the site become inaccessible on the new computer?
  • On your old and new computers, visit WhatIsMyIP.com. If your IP address is different for each one, please share them both here (or send them to me privately if you prefer).
  • You can try accessing the site from another browser without bothering to import your bookmarks or anything - just open up IE, type in gtplanet.net, and see if it works. :)
Sometimes I got worse:Unable to open GTP at sometimes! Why?
Any other information you could provide would also be helpful. For example, what browser and operating system are you using? How often does this happen? What is the specific error message that you're getting? Are you unable to access just the forums or the entire website?

Thanks for the info, Leonidae. Sure enough, your x.x.92.46 IP address was blocked by GTPlanet's firewall on December 28 because of a flood of packets to TCP port 443. This port is used for secure HTTPS connections, but I'm not running any HTTPS server so I don't know why your machine would be making those requests. Due to the volume of packets which were sent, I am not keen on unblocking the IP address just yet. If this is a business computer, you might want to have your IT department take another look at it.

No, this is not a business computer, but a custom built machine. I have to talk with the guy who built it for me and ask if theres anything we can do about it. I'll try to change the IP as well. Honestly, I had no idea that my computer was sending any stuff outside.:scared:

Well, if you're using both computers in your home, it's very, very unusual to have two laptops, each with their own public IP address (unless you're an enthusiast or power user). Most people run their own private networks behind a NAT router, which is the only device with a public IP. Perhaps the two laptops are connected to two different wireless networks?

Jordan:I typically used Firefox on my Vista laptop. This is on my dad's laptop, used IE and found yesterday cannot open GTP.

I assume that Jordans last reply was to me.. They're not laptops but proper tabletop PC's with towers and all. And neither of them have the equipment that would enable a wireless connection. They're both going through an ethernet cable hub, which is connected to DSL modem etc..

I'd recommend taking it offline and giving it a very thorough virus and malware scan.

Yes, it was to you - I'm not sure why I thought they were laptops :dunce:, but it doesn't matter. It is still very unusual for a residential ISP to provide you with more than one IP address (without charging you for it). Regardless of how this problem is resolved, I recommend getting your own router with a firewall to be as safe as you can be. It also might provide you with better performance than that Ethernet hub you're using if both computers require a lot of bandwidth at the same time.

Done that, all that was found was single Trojan and even that was on external drive. I use my new computer more and more now that I've transfered most of the files I have on this computer to the new one. I will probably unplug this old one from the Internet soon, but keep it as backup machine in case something goes wrong with the new one. I'll also contact my ISP on Monday and see if there's something they can do something to the dual IP's.

Is it out of question to try out if those packets are still being sent from my IP?
