unbelievable glitch

Racing eddietrout online today in a lobby of 6 drivers at Spa. We all make a good start apart from eddie who's left on the grid. Half way round the circuit and he's still stuck there, fair enough i thought, perhaps he's gone for a pee! Get to the last chicane and eddie registers the fastest lap even though he hasn't moved! For about 3 laps this happens with his lap times steadily improving even though he hasn't moved. Come round the hairpin on the last lap in the lead expecting to win but find that eddie's now moving and gets first place and fastest lap.

Sent him a message calling him a 'cheating swine' but replies that he did it by accident! Eddie's always been a fair racer online so i tend to believe him.

Could this glitch make a mockery of the leaderboard standings?

Just sounds like a whole lot of lag. He was racing ahead of you, setting fastest laps, but your PS3 wasn't registering him properly.
 
Sarrinen--Did you check the leaderboards after? Did his (unrealistic) times register? And what car was this BTW? I have seen a few odd times here or there on the leaderboards with times that just didn't make sense but I can't remember the track. And it seemed to be pretty isolated. You might want to repost this over on the Bugs section of the Eutechnyx forums. If Eddie's times registered they'll have easy access to the stats and can hopefully isolate the problem.

Well, I'm assuming if a guy is stuck on the grid for 3 laps, any time he registers during that period is unrealistic and clearly the result of some sort of a glitch. From your comment I assumed you were making a dry joke. But suffice to say, if his lap times were significantly faster than Sarrinen's, it's unlikely that they'll be duplicated. By anybody.
 
He also doesn't say they were significantly faster.

I'm not being funny. I'm being serious.

Eddie may have been driving out in the lead, but sarrinen's PS3 wasn't getting the info from Eddie's laps, but as long as the server* was, they'll count.



*Whoever that is. Is it an EA server?
 
I think it's Sony. At least, that was the case with FC.

Sarrinen, care to explain more? Did Eddie tell you what he experienced from his own end? Was he indeed racing? I don't think anyone can lap around Spa and finish first lap when you (or any competent racer) are still in the last chicane. So, unless you had a serious "off" in the first lap, any time recorded by then would have to be fake.

So, either this is what daan assumed (online glitch/bug cause by lag or whatever other technical malfunction, making you not see eddie's car on the track, and his "dot" stopped at the grid, while he was indeed racing ahead of you), or indeed it is a more serious problem.
