I'm sorry, you're all completely and utterly wrong.

There is no such thing as "Emo", the correct genre is now "Indie Electronica".

Yay gonna see falloutboy in May :)

I like them they suck but they are catchy as hell :P

I can understand totally why many people hate them though i did for like a year before reliking them.

I feel stupider after reading this post.

You like them, admit that they suck, and say you like it because it is catchy. Then you say you hated them for an entire year and now you like them.

:nervous: :scared:

I like some punk, back when punk was punk. Clash, Ramones, etc.

I don't like hardly any of the newer pop/punk crap, and emo is espescially horrid. I cannot *stand* it.

I appreciate bands like Tool and Dream Theater, although sometimes bands like that sacrifice a tight groove that flows, for something technically challenging to play. I like a balance between the two. Neither of those bands are anywhere near my favorites.

Besides the general public, you can blame the record companies and the media, and overall you can blame greed for money, blah blah blah. People are sheep and when you advertise something as popular, it becomes popular.

You just completely changed your statement. In fact, I fail to see a single link between the two things you said.

I'll use Green Day as an example, as I know a fair bit about them. They made most of their mainstream fame in 2004, so that's where I'm presuming that you're taking that kind of a stance from.

They are not amateurs, in fact when you compare them to Tool, they're freaking veterans. GD has been releasing records since 1989, which is longer than Tool's first release in 1992. So much for the YEARS of experience argument, eh? They ain't amateurs, there are some things that BJ plays that are fairly complex riffs, written when he was 16 or 17, and singing while running through it. Take a listen to what they play with an open mind, you'll find that there's a lot more to it. It also takes a bit of skill to writing a rock-opera absolutely perfectly, getting away with making an album title like that, not offending subsequent religious and political entities and selling millions of copies.

There's a certain amount of to jealousy to it, you have to admit. You're mad 'cause some group of kids that grew up in a punk squaters building can make more money that your "virtuosic" laser-guitarists.

That's life, and business though: "Learn one chord, play punk and make millions, learn two chords, play rock and make millions, learn three chords, play jazz and starve to death."

TOOL has only been a band together since the time, they all have been playing a fair amount of time before that. Alot of Greenday stuff was popular when Dookie came out, of coarse i know alot about them to, they live in my area! Greenday has only made more money because of MTV and VH1 promotion. TOOL gets most of there stuff money from going to Rock festivals, and CD sales. Wile Greenday has alot of Airtime on the radio, and TV, thanks for the promotion by MTV, and VH1. Know one owuld know who the hell Greenday was if it wernt for MTV. I think TOOL is betetr cause they explore music alot more. Greenday is just well kinda PUNK/Alternative, kinda boring and alot of there stuff sounds the same. Wile TOOL explores, Metal, ALT Metal, Progressive Rock, Sci Fi type music, kinda like Pink Floyd, really spacey kinda stuff. Punk has grown off of roots of Progressive Rock. Wich were created by Rush, King Crimson, and being carried on by Dream Theater, Helmet, TOOL. Dream Theater isn't new either. This year the touring for there 20th aniversary, and they have been playing LONG before that. Have you listened to John Myung's Bass, or John Petettruci's Guitar solos, or even Mike Portnoy's drums. They are veterans, there the ones that passed the essence of Robert Fripp, Alex Lifeson, Neil Peart, there the reavolutionary Guitar/Drum players, that really revolutioned Rock. There isnt much history behind Punk, it's been around awile yes, but Progressive Rock has been around MUCH longer, and most bands of the early Prog Rock days, in the 50's still play today. Wile Punk haso nly been around around 30 years, or so, it's all been changed alot, to somthing that all sounds the same, and Emo like. Witch really only catches eyes of young viewers that don't know much about there history of music, or the music they listen to. I play bass my self, alot of punk is pretty damn easy to play, but i've tried to play some of Dream Theaters, or TOOL's stuff, even Rush, or Deep Purple, it's much harder to play, and takes ALOT OF PRACTICE. I can play Smoke on the Water, but thats about theo only progressive i can play. I please don't think i'm a Prog Rock fan boy, i listen to every single music i can posibally can, i have XM on my computer, it's just Prog catches somthing that most other music genres to have, and thats all the hard work they put into being known, with out series names and help from MTV. When i see MTV i see Alternative/Punk, Rap, Pop, Hip-Hop, theres good stuff in every genre. But thats just about what i've seen on MTV, sometimes you do see veterans such as U2, Tom Petty, Neil Young, or The Rolling Stones. But not as often as young people who quit high school for a carrer in music, instead of actually learning stuff, and studing the history of music, and getting a sense of music, and who really did create the all the music that modern music branches off of. Alot of modern music sings about politcal stuff, wich i think is stupid. To me music is saposed to get away from those kind of things. To me music is saposed to lift you off your feet, and take you off into some amazing world, and when you close your eyes, and listen to TOOL, or Pink Floyd it can creep you out, cause it really makes you like your somewere elese. When listening to Greenday there always talking about Bush, well most of the time, and i feel like i'm watchign a debate between him and Kerry, or Gore or whomeever. It really gets to me and bugs me. Another thing is Punk gets really repetitive, you hear alot of the same things, they talk about troubles with girls, then there off to do drugs, witch they wish they did, but probally don't, then talk about cheating or somthing. And it kinda just sounds the thing. But when you hear other songs, just about random things, like Dream Theater, YES they do i have some songs about terrorists, but it's different, it takes you to there land, not a redneck talking about them, and making bad desicsions. I truely don't care about how Bill Joe Armstrong feels about Bush, keep it to your self, and don't yell **** BUSH, in the middle of your concerts.

Well i better stop now, even though i can go on forever...

I dont mind the occasional emo song. But I am a firm believer that there is no link to it from Punk.

Again, I really can't see the point to any of that whole rant. You aren't arguing or comparing anything, you're just saying random music chronology that is still full of faults. It's really hard to understand that kind of unorganized text full of grammar and punctuation errors.

What about Green Day playing their legendary cheapo concerts? Or playing several Reading Festivals, Live 8, Woodstock 1994, which, correct me if you can, Tool also played at?

Again, you're getting mad at Green Day because another person is playing their music.

Master_Yoda
Have you listened to John Myung's Bass, or John Petettruci's Guitar solos, or even Mike Portnoy's drums.

I don't care for that style of "you solo for a while now" music. Again, technical does not mean good.

Master_Yoda

Were you drunk when you wrote this? No serious band says "we're gonna write this song so it can be played on MTV and we'll make millions." If this is what you think Green Day is doing, you clearly don't know much about them.

Master_Yoda
When listening to Greenday there always talking about Bush, well most of the time, and i feel like i'm watchign a debate between him and Kerry, or Gore or whomeever.

Again, you don't know anything about Green Day. They released one album that intricately dealt with several characters living, surviving and dying in an unhelpful and failing social framework. But you didn't catch that because you think it's anti-Bush, so maybe listen to the whole album properly.

Master_Yoda
Another thing is Punk gets really repetitive, you hear alot of the same things, they talk about troubles with girls, then there off to do drugs, witch they wish they did, but probally don't, then talk about cheating or somthing.

You didn't follow that old music chronology like you said you did. Why did punk start? What was their meaning? What is the meaning of actual punk today? Take a friggin' listen!!! What are the Epitaph crowd talking about right now?!? What did the Ramones, Sex Pistols and the Clash talk about back then? How has this changed?

Answers these questions.

And damn, society has gotten your vulnerable little mind in its palm and between its fingers. You really think that it's cool to do drugs? You say that "they" wish they did drugs, so the hardcore musicians really do take drugs, making them better musicians?

For the record, when Green Day played in my town a couple years ago, they ran through their entire set in 45 minutes because they were whacked out on speed. Their name also comes from an inside joke about smoking up.

Master_Yoda
I truely don't care about how Bill Joe Armstrong feels about Bush, keep it to your self, and don't yell **** BUSH, in the middle of your concerts.

He has the right to do so. If you don't like it, why the hell did you pay to go see the show? Why do you watch/listen to the commercials that broadcast live Green Day concerts?

Master_Yoda
Well i better stop now...

Please do.

EDIT:

Just remembered this:

You don't like it when bands speak out to their audience, informing them to hopefully change how everyone lives (being political, in other words)?

What project did Maynard James Keenan contribute to that was specifically organised as a social and political awareness concert series? What band was Tool affiliated with that was the single most politically-charged band in the last two decades?

In fact, I'll save you the labour of searching through your memory, or more likely, Google:

1)Axis of Justice and 2)Rage Against the Machine
are the two answers. Do a little search on both subjects. You'll find that Tool stands for a lot more than you'd thought.

I can't specifically say for Green Day, but I know for sure plenty of artists have recorded songs just so they could get as much money as possible from MTV playing it constantly. Don't ask me to give references or citations.... just realize it's all a business, and the music industry is there to make money. That trickles down to some of the bands, too.

Master Yoda, while I do really enjoy bands like Tool, King Crimson, Rush, Dream Theater, and the like, and while I generally dislike bands such as Green Day (due to their sound not appealling to me, personally) your argument serves no purpose, it is entirely incorrect, and it does not make sense. eliseracer has done more than enough to correct a lot of your post, but a few things still bug me.

For starters, talking about Political views is not stupid. Yes, you may not agree with it, and yes, you may not care, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's stupid. Music is meant to be an expression of the musical artist. It's an art-form. Lyrics are meant to come from beliefs, morals, experiences, imagination, and a whole variety of different areas. If a songwriter has a strong political view on a subject, why is it wrong for him to express this through his artwork? What is terribly wrong with expressing your opinion to those who want to listen?

Secondly, if a musician wishes they were doing drugs, wouldn't they be doing them already? I severely doubt anyone with a wish to take drugs would be unable to do so. Either way, why would they wish they were doing drugs? Are you suggesting that drugs are something of a good thing?

Thirdly, how are Dream Theater's or Tool's views on terrorism and politics any better than Green Day's? Are you trying to say that Green Day are just a bunch of whining rednecks, where are Dream Theater and Tool have a much more intricate, in-depth view on the subjects? A political view is a political view. To me it sounds as if you're basing this entire argument based on the fact that you like Dream Theater and Tool better than Green Day.

Oh, and by the way, PLEASE fix up your posting. Your grammar was terrible, your punctuation was all over the place, and your spelling was poor. It makes your posts very hard to read and decipher.

Leave the simplistic music and the music which appeals to musically unappreciative to the mainstream. Bands like Tool deserve appreciation by those who will truly appreciate them.

I'm a big fan of Tool and APC :).

:odd: Umm... wow, I'm watching Leno with these morons on right now. I'm in the wrong major/business. I should be like these guys, you can literally squeak by making up random sounds and suck like Lavigne.

I don't know how someone is accepted when they look like this though.
