Hello, I'm not certain if this subject has been treated before but I have a lot of curiosity about how the AI drives in this game. In the interest of fair racing offline in a level playing field, could someone tell me, if possible, how the AI drives, in the sense of what assists they use, what they don't use, what tires they use, if they abide to the rules you set on your driving options or not?

I appreciate any help answering this question, and thank you in advance.:)

I think the AI is coded into what are the "standard" physics, and they for the most part act human-like. If your trying to have fun with the AI you will eventually find what it takes in terms of racing style and choices to result in enjoyable overtaking(this includes accepting when you make a mistake and an AI comes in to overtake you!) All in the effort to elminate the annoying contact in weird ways you can do with them simply because the AI does not always act in a way that shows they even know your there.

Well, that explains quite a lot of things. I drive in professional physics and because of that I experience all the issues with understeer or oversteer certain cars have. The AI, driving on standard, doesn't deal with those problems and so they can control cars like the Tuned Lotus Elise and the Blitz with so much precision while keeping consistent lap times.

Yes, I've noticed that too :). It becomes a bit hard on certain situations to avoid contact because the AI cars seem to have blind spots where they don't see you and just hold their line. They also tend to rear-end you quite alot on the sharp corners.

Ok, so if they drive on standard do they also use all those assists and tires that are on by default?

The AI drive on whatever physics you're driving. Nothing magical in how they handle a car.

The one big advantage that the AI has is that they have more linear throttle control than most players, even on their lower settings. They have no grip advantage and no speed advantage... in fact, quite the opposite... they're still a lot like GT4 AI, in that they don't use all of a car's top speed and drive rather conservatively. This conservative driving is why the AI are very quick in tricky-to-drive cars... but that's part of the challenge.

The big issue is that the AI's lookahead and lookbehind scripts aren't very good. They'll avoid you if you're ahead of them only if the closing speed isn't too high. If you're going much slower than they expect, they will run into you from behind. If you're behind them in a corner and on-line for the apex, they'll turn into you. You have to be right up beside them for them to avoid you... and they still don't always get it right.
