Unorthodox Rally Cars

Here's something I've been wondering; has anyone else been trying out non-standard rally cars? By that I mean trying to build a road car into a rally car, or by slapping dirt tires on any race-ready car that will accept them and taking them for a spin.

Some of you might remember I was trying to get a New Beetle RSi to work on the dirt courses, and while it wasn't the smashing success I had hoped it would be it did manage to clear out the first two Tahiti courses with some effort. And recently I discovered that putting rally tires on an otherwise unmodified Astra Touring Car makes for a very unusual and sometimes unruly (but fast!) ride. Take it out to Smokey Mountain and check out the comet-trail of sparks it leaves on the paved section!

Anyone else have any unstandard rallyers they've been using lately? Maybe some suggestions of cars to try?

yes, i buy rally tires for any car i can. My faves are the skyline, rx-7 rx, and the SVT Cobra.

There's been a few spoken about. The Tickford's good fun for tailout action, and we were talking about the Ruf CTR (I think - the 4wd one anyway) which when fully tuned is actually pretty handy.

I ran one of my 900-1000ho Skylines there, and I must say that car takes an awful lot of pulling up at the end of straights...

I have to admit, I've wanted to try my TommyK ZZII - which after all, is AWD.

I know the SVT Cobra has a lot of supporters as a rally beast.

I've attempted the rally section in an Audi TT, and the S4. S4 works great, TT just doesn't have it. I wiped out the entire rally section in 2 marathon sessions with a Mine's Skyline.

I tried it once with the RUF, but had a miserable time trying to get traction.

Impreza LM race car works great for rally, juice it up with some Turbo and you'll destroy all competition, It handles really well too.
I tried using the Escudo for rally and hated it...that car is way too fast for rally racing
or any racing for that matter.

the Escudo Pikes Peak was made for the Pike's Peak hill climb, a tough real life rally event. it's perfect for rally kinda. just slam the brake early.
