Update troubles

I've looked but could not find an answer else were in the forum or online.
What I want to know is can the new update 1.6 be installed any other way than direct to the PS3?
Every time I try the waiting time is up to 6000minutes! My connection is fine for online racing and and running a laptop for downloads, even the previous updates worked fine. I waited for over an hour the past several evenings to give it a chance but the gauge doesn't move past 0%. I'm signed in to the internet and the PSnetwork.
Is there a way to download it onto USB from a PC and then install it to the PS3?
There's no way I can wait several days for this download to install, it's insane!
Any advice/help would be greatly appreciated.

Im not sure i know you can use a usb for sony firmware updates but for gt5 i dont know have you tried the gt5 website.
 
Yeah, the website has no info about downloading to USB.

Well a bloke on Yahoo! answers claims it can only be done with PS firmware but not game updates. Looks like I'm going to be offline for a few days!
 
I'm told it just means the game is backed up from everyone downloading, so download speed is just about 0 Mbps. Also my record is 20 thousand minutes, lowest I got was 84 minutes, then it climbed
