I posted an attachment, and then changed the file on my computer. I wanted to reload the attachment using the new file, so I edited the post, chose "Upload new attachment", selected the file, and submitted.

I was told that I couldn't attach the file, because I'd already attached it!

So I slightly amended the filename, repeated the process, and got the same error! :banghead:

I eventually had to delete the attachment, then create a new post and attach it to that post. Is this intentional behaviour, because it seems like a bug to me! The file is a WinZip archive containing an Excel spreadsheet.

Because you can only attach one file one time, it prevented you from uploading it again. Of course, we know that if you had been able to upload the updated file, it would have overwritten the old attachment and there wouldn't be multiple copies of it on the server. However, I'm afraid the software simply isn't smart enough to recognize that. If this happens again in the future, just delete the old attachment first, and you should then be able to upload the updated file to the same post without any problems (a new post is not necessary).

Thanks Jordan. Unfortunately, a new post is necessary, as if you try to edit a post that has no attachment, you don't get the attachment options in the edit window. I think it would be easier if I hosted the file and linked it, rather than attaching it!

Oh, yes, that is correct - I was thinking about vB3! :dunce:

That's odd...I was able to update an upload. I had uploaded a zip file, then made a few changes to the base file, rezipped it (slightly changed the name) and uploaded a new one over the old one.

Worked fine for me. Could that have been because I renamed it?

My 2 cents.

No, it's probably the changes you made to the base file and then rezipping it.
