Updating error

I played Gran Turismo 6 a lot when it first came out. About a month ago my PlayStation had corrupted data and I ended up factory restoring the whole thing. Now ever time I go to play I get "Update in Progress. Please do not switch off the system while the HDD access indicator is flashing" This is where the problem is, I haven't been able to play for over a month.

Any ideas on what to do? I want to start playing again. I tried deleting data and redownloading the updates but got the same issue.

If your trying to update wireless give up and hook up the ethernet cable and download hardwired, seems to work better for the big GT6 updates.
 
I have the same problem,ugh.wireless isnt working.
 
I've tried to download the latest 1.14 patch - and this is the issue I've just encountered.
It downloaded the patch then it sort of stalled when it was installing it (3 minute to go...)
I've tried to restart the ps3 - but it goes through the motions and then hangs a few inches into the installing the update.

I didn't get any help on the main forum - mostly due to off topic rants drowning out real questions.

If I find a way to get back to playing - I'll post here.

this thread may help - not tried it myself... letting my PS3 cool down at the moment.

I've been having serious trouble trying to get 1.14 to install.

I've deleted the old game data - started again - but it always hangs when it installs in GT6.

I've chopped up the download... and managed to get it to update all the way to 1.13 perfectly normally (And I can play the game offline here) but the final step to 1.14 just hangs when it tries to install.
9 minutes becomes 15 minutes becomes 1m40 seconds.... which stops when the yellow HD light calls it quits.

Do I keep hammering away retrying the install? (I have to unplug the PS3 when it does hang up which can't be good.)

I pressed X within 2 seconds to download the final 1.14 update.

Any advice would be smashing.
 
Ryk, as far as I know, the latest update isn't subject to the 'press X within 2sec' issue that was evident several updates back.

How do you connect to the internet? Wireless, wired, broadband (or ack! via modem?) If you have broadband, wired, and you're experiencing difficulties, I'd recommend calling your internet service provider, as they may be the source of the issue. Wireless connections and update issues seems to be pretty common. There are some folks over at the Sony GT forum who may be able to help you iron out your issues with wireless, but in general, wired is preferred over wireless for these transactions. If you don't get traction at the EU/UK branch, then try the North American GT forum. (which is specifically the crew I'm talking about)

Got a fancy reel of 50 feet of wireless cable plugged into the back. (Painted my PS3 with Tartan paint too)

I can't see it being the download as the PS3 has managed to download each part of the previous updates in the last week 1.0 through to 1.13 and then install them without any fuss.
Maybe when I downloaded the final 1.14 update last week and today I just lucked out and the file corrupted on the upload.

My own hunch is it may be hard drive related - maybe a bad sector or something?
The annoying thing is how long it takes to download the entire GT6 updates once you delete the lot.

Currently I am 1.13 - trying for 1.14 so when the PS3 tries to install the update it is only a small chunk - so it only takes a short to complete... so after 5 or so minutes I can watch it as it tries to install it before it hangs.
First time it nearly made it (80% of the blue bar), on repeat goes it has been quite early (About 20% or so) - and that could well be due to be having to quit from game and then unplug - plug back in the ps3 to get it working again. (Gets a 3 beep green light but n response if I quit out of the installation ( I Gave it over an hour once it stopped trying to access the hard drive.)

I'll take all the good luck I can get.

I hope it is something so basic and obvious - but deep down I know it isn't (Otherwise it would not have been able to update over the last few days to 1.13.)
 
One more recommendation and I'm out of ideas. Try doing the install very late at night, when others in your vicinity won't be watching internet tv or downloading the latest greatest You-Tube videos. (Cable internet can be subject to your " neighbors' " loading of the shared connection). And *do try to get in touch with your ISP, as they may have helpful answers or may need to check the lines. Oh snap... that could be an issue too. the literal telephone/cable lines feeding your home. I had some bad telephone company wiring leading to my house a couple years ago due to aging infrastructure that were solved when a tech rerouted me. Also a few failures in the fiber to wire converters used in my area that got hammered by thunder storms.
