Upgraded from controller to wheel - Online player issues now

Finally made the jump, getting a g27 and racing seat setup off craigslist for $320. After a week of practicing with it and getting the hang of it, quickly did I notice I was considerably faster than a controller. Playing online is a ton of fun, till I get booted.... Why? Well it seems people hate you when you pass them and they don't know how to keep their line. It seems its my fault I fly pass them and they get bumped because they left me no room in the line I'm traveling in. Mind you I was already in the clear before they swipe me in the side. The worse I would say is nascar. I don't know why, but I find that to be the best fun specially with having the right setup. I'm usually in the top three and winning half the time.

Half the rooms I've played in I have been kicked out for being a good driver. Anyone else having issues with other players blaming their faults on you because they assume when you're passing them that they deserve to stay in the lead? I know it is hard to keep a straight line when using a controller, but does majority people assume we should take that into consideration and wait for them to give room? I never cared when I was using a controller and clearly saw I wasn't keep a straight line at times. I hate waiting 3-4 laps before the other driver is able to keep a straight line to be able to pass.

So basically you're saying that you hit them while overtaking, but it's their fault. I don't think that is quite the same as "being kicked for being a better driver".

As for your question, you shouldn't wait for them to give room, because that may never happen, but you should definitely wait for a clear opportunity. There's a number of legit ways to make that happen, one of the best may be to stress them by staying close, to try to trick them into leaving the optimal line by faking an attempt to overtake on one side and then going on the other side, etc. Be creative.

This kind of arrogance make me think its actually your fault for the contact. Ive got a wheel and have never had this problem since getting it...

My usual tactic with people like this (People that don't leave room) is to stay right on their tail. Even if you know you can pass them simply stay on their tail.

Generally speaking people don't seem to have any experience in dealing with pressure stress and will end up overshooting braking points worrying about what you're doing. (which is upsetting to say the least but y'know)

As for other people blaming me, no not really. I've been called a cheater or called out on my car choice many times but normally people accept when they've messed their line up and caused a bump.

Although one time this guy slammed his brakes on miles before the braking point and I couldn't react in time since I was right on his butt.. he blamed me.. which made me laugh like nothing else

I've never been booted, but I've went 2 wide in corners before only to have the other guy have to much speed then yell at me over the mic for running them off the track. Happened yesterday as a matter of fact. On La Sarthe, on the 2nd left handed curve. Side by side coming down the hill, I'm on the inside as we start braking, I put my car on the rumble strip, he comes over and hits me. Then starts yelling on the mic that I ran him off after he over corrected and went into the sand. I guess some people just don't like it when they mess up or get beat, so they blame others.

There are pad drivers just as clean and fast as wheel drivers. Check the company you keep(join a league) or check yourself.

It's a non issue.

I suppose that is fine. You are free to think what you want, although I made it pretty clear what was happening and you skipped over the details. Not my fault for your doing.

If I'm already starting to pass them and half my car is pass their rear bumper, how would it be my fault for them jumping lines? Racers should know keep the inside or outside line and mind around you, not randomly swing out thinking you're all alone on the track. Hence mirrors.

Not everyone can drive at a high level. Look into joining a league.

I'm assuming you're driving in online lobbies.. which given your attitude probably isn't the best choice.

Look into making friends with like minded individuals and race with them rather than pugs 👍

I only took into his way of wording what he said and the nature of these forums to be more of a negative response. If he was truly trying to help I'm sorry, but it just didn't seem as so since clearly details were overlooked. Usually to help details are needed.

It's still not the same as being kicked for being a better driver. You were kicked for an incident which they think you caused. The problem to solve is not "you are too fast for the others", the problem to solve is "how can you overtake slower cars without facing the risk of being kicked", right?

And of course you can claim your right to be where you were, but that approach doesn't help you from not being kicked again...

When you find a good lobby, add the host and check the community tab before going to open lobby. That will cut those one hour good lobby rooms down to minutes.i I've made 15-20 friends like that and I get on at the most random times possible. There are usually 2-3 people hosting a lobby at all times and if there isn't, that's when I venture off into the open lobby world.

Its true people don't like being over taken. People will ram you as you go past and then lunge into you on the next slow corner. I don't know much of the GT community and only play In random lobby's perhaps that's my problem. Most leagues seem USA based so with me being in Europe with times differences etc its hard to get a good race.

Many(sometimes it seems like most) people online at least in public rooms don't/wont bother to look to the sides or use their map at a zoom level that allows them to see to the sides. So unless they can see you out the front they just take whatever line they see fit and if they smash into you they automatically assume it's your fault. It's the nature of unregulated public lobbies, sadly. Happens plenty with people who have wheels as well, it's by no means a "wobbly DS3 user" thing exclusively.

All you can really do to defend against it is make sure you are ready for it when it happens(and get used to seeing when it is likely to happen) so you aren't the one who loses control, or make sure that you've got a really solid opportunity to get through before going for it. Then you have to hope the host has seen enough of your driving to not automatically believe without evidence that you're going around punting people.

In addition, as UrieHusky said, one of the best ways to deal with this that when you can see that they aren't aware or don't care about you being alongside, don't go for the pass straight away in a close situation. Just stay right behind them and not hit them, perhaps make a feint up the inside and back out before things get hairy now and then, or attempt some dummy passes to the side you don't actually intend to go through. A lot of people tend to freak out when they see you doing these sorts of things, and will end up making mistakes before very long so you will either get a nearly uncontested pass or they'll run themselves right off the road.

I agree, being faster doesn't grant an automatic right to be in front. If the OP were as talented as he clearly thinks he is, he'd be able to overtake cleanly.

If they're jumping lines it's usually their fault, BUT if they simply stay on the ideal driving line so that they can propperly drive a difficult corner (as example suzuka's 130R, Spa's Eau Rouge), then it's in most cases your fault. It's also mostly your bad if this happens directly after heavy braking as example for a hairpin.

What about a mid speed corner, your on the inside he's on the outside you can't take the corner without moving from the inside to the outside without slowing down far too much. If you do take it at race speed you know as the other guy turns in he's going to eat the side of your car..

People usually get kicked for:

Not being a friend of some one in the room.

Some hosts check your level and will kick people that will potentially cause problems.

Smart mouth on the microphone or chat box.

Racing dirty.

Using the wrong car.

Or just not fitting the "mood" of the room.

A lot of children are in the game and they will kick you when they loose. You don't want to race with sore losers/whiners anyway.

Sounds like from your description you might just be too aggressive for the rooms you have chosen.
