so i have this annoying problem... especially in grid starts. :indiff:

this problem only applies when i am using the clutch pedal:

almost every time i try to do a fast upshift from 1st into 2nd gear, it just goes into neutral, unless i do it definitively and slowly. downshifting into 2nd is fine however. is this how it is supposed to be? please note that i am not very experienced with stickshift yet. all other gears work fine and i can shift quickly. the only problem is that shifting from 1st to 2nd gear is very inconsistent. i tested a true racer like the Zonda R (my favorite :dopey:) and it can shift 1st to 2nd quickly, but not all the time. other times, it just goes back into neutral. i'm not sure if it is the car, the g27, or just me. can anyone clarify?

btw my friend has a stick rsx and he says that it shouldn't be that way. it should shift just as fast as any of the other gears.

Thanks

so many threads about this. Please search. Install a lighter flywheel and upgrade the clutch disc. It will help a bit, but just shift slower. Banging 1st to 2nd in my real life car would result in bad news bears.

Lolwut? He's talking about using the wheel in the game. :dunce:

I have the same problem with 2nd, but I always solve my problem by staying on the clutch a little longer. Sometimes, my 5th gear goes to Neutral by itself when its already in 5th.

I'm having the same problem with my G25, I find that it helps to slow your shift action down (instead of just slaming the gear stick into 2nd).

Thanks for all your informative replies. I just wanted to know if my wheel was broken or something went wrong so it worried me. I'll use the search next time. But now I'm interested and curious on why 1st to 2nd has to be shifted more slowly than the others?

I thought my wheel was broken too...lol...Just weird because real life car doesn't require me to shift that slow from 1st to 2nd.

Most cars don't like to be banged from 1st to 2nd. If I do that in my car, it won't go into 2nd or it will grind or it will be rough. I always take that shift nice and easy. Always. When the car is cold on a 25 degree morning, I have to double-clutch to get into 2nd gear. It's a safety lockout feature and I'm glad it's in GT. If you don't like it, use the paddles/sequential.

Or just upgrade the fly. It's mostly an issue with revs dropping. If they drop faster, the gear will be more likely to engage.

Trust me it's not a problem with the wheel.

Same thing happens to me with my G25. I've always thought that I let off the clutch too early and that's why it stalls. But like the OP said, just hold the clutch a little longer from 1st to 2nd and it works just fine.

Just happy to know I'm not the only one with that problem. lol

Yup I always mess up 1>2 shifts from grid starts. I have to really concentrate and remember to shift slowly else it pops into neutral. Reminds me of my motorcycle.. I sometimes try to quick shift into 2nd and it drops into neutral... :dopey:

It seems to be an issue with the game rather than the wheel itself. Not sure why they make that specific gear change slower.

That is a truly stupid reply.

This is a real problem in the game, especially if it claims to be a simulator, the fact the car doesnt like it is irrelevent, in rl from a grid start i really want to bang the car from 1st -> 2nd and if i wreck the clutch then so be it. Forza does this perfectly, if you dont get the clutch right you hurt the clutch/engine and effect your race, if you get it a little wrong and do it for too long ie endurance race you will slowly wreck the clutch.

Even in my road car i can do this, which i dont do often at all unless i want to launch from some traffic lights but i still have the option and that cars stock!

Heel and toe downshifts also dont work consistently well for the same reason but not as bad as the 1st to 2nd gear issue.

It is a real shame but the answer as you say is to use the paddles/sequential to shift.

I have the same issue's about 1st to 2nd, only to find out that you need to slowly engage it into the gear before it works. Right now i'm using the paddle shifters atm. Hopefully they release a patch to sort out this.

I have the same issue, except for me it's the 3 -> 2 downshift that I apparently try to do too fast. I get stuck in neutral at least a few times each race. BTW, I drive a stick in real life, and I can downshift much faster in my car than in the game. Oh, well, just something else to get used to. Glad my wheel isn't broken!

yes! i got the same annoying problem! i have to shift slower than my grandmother would drive one fiat punto! . and thats only the god damn 2nd gear! well i hope poly.. will release a patch and solve this very annoying issue.

another question incase anyone reads this.. is there any pc game (racing) that allows the clutch to work properly? i got the g27 and the rfactor 60 min timed demo that camed with it doesnt support real clutching. i mean u can use the clutch and shift but u can also shift without the clutch with the same settings! so u wont know ur u wont really use the clutch in real. that was only on rfactor im talking about now.

any pc game that have full support of g27. and not "iRacing" that one is monthly charged for playing.
