I've never found the backup / save process very logical in this game, and haven't done enough homework.

The last time I backed up to USB was back in May, and I can't remember how I did it.

I thought when you pressed "SAVE" in GT5 it created an up to date file named as the date.

So, I plug in the USB, go to XMB, click on "GAME / PS3" and find a GT5 file. I thought this was the latest save. Then I click "COPY". I get a warning saying that the file already exists (it was named 11/05/11 or something) do I want to overwrite. I think this is strange, but couldn't see a more recent save, so click yes.

Now I just opened GT5 and find I've gone back in time to May this year.... back to A35, B39, all my hard-to-find racers are gone, 10 million credits gone... F*&%!!!!

It's so ferkin illogical.... why not do it all from in the ferkin game???

Is there any way I can get back to the latest auto save? The file should still be there, shouldn't it? Somewhere???

HELP!!:sick::sick::sick:

Quite unlucky. At least you can make different purchasing choices this time? I don't think your previous data exists anymore. Sorry. Have a good time playing though.

There your problem.

Understood, but let's be honest, for the year 2011 Sony / PD certainly don't seem to understand that "user interface" has come a long way since DOS!!

I don't think that any game has a back-up feature In-Game.

Wait, what? You've willingly overwritten your save and you blame the console's user interface?
It said *save name* xx/xx/2011 xx:xx "Are you sure you want to overwrite?" and you clicked yes, what's the big deal? You should've checked the date(s).
Unlucky.

If it auto saves, which it is set to, the last save would have been 12/08/11, not 11/05/11.... how come the file on the PS3 has the same name as the last back up? Which, by the way, I doubt it did.

Instead of saying "copy" from USB stick to PS3 (which indicates it is going to write a new file, different name unless the name already exists, then you get an overwrite warning) it should say RESTORE if the file name makes no difference.

I'm not "blaming" the PS3, but I am saying it could be done a lot more straightforwardly with a little forethought.

I'm just p1ssed off that I've lost my Bentley Speed 8, zero Km, brand new pristine love of life..... the others I don't care about, they'll recycle in the UCD, eventually.... the Bentley came as a one time offer from the OCD and may never be seen again.

Excuse me, I'm going to cry......

seadog777, I feel for you. As a computer user since 1982 I have seen literally every kind of GUI...and the PS3s is not very good IMO. But it does sound to me as if you accidentally copied the file from the USB to the PS3 instead of the other way round.

But I wouldn't bother coming here expecting sympathy if you dare to criticise GT5 or PD.....you just won't get any.

Thanks for the sympathy Robbo! It seems I did copy the USB to the PS3.

I don't understand why back ups can't be done from in the game, just like any other computer.... it has "save", why not add a "save TO" option?? Simples!

Agreed, consoles are now very close to the power of PCs..I must admit I'm very impressed with the ability to just bring up the XMB while a game is running. But sadly many console developers still keep producing games with a lack of options compared to PC games. It irritates me that console games STILL restrict saving!!! These consoles have harddrives now, there's NO excuse!

Well this is getting weird.... I went to the Practice sessions and found they were intact. I have cars in the rankings that I no longer have.... eg Audi R8 '01, top spot at Trial Mountain, still, but the car's been wiped.

Why's that????

Records, Photos, and replays are saved to your game data on the PS3, not your save file (if that makes sense). If you have more than one account on the PS3, all records will show up across the saves, for example.

Personally, I find the interface very straight-forward - I back up a copy of my save to my USB, and if I want to restore it, I go into the USB and hit copy on that file. I have deleted my hard drive save before... but that was my own fault for forgetting the USB wasn't actually in my PS3 once.

This is why I transfer a backup to my PC every week - it only takes a minute.
